When looking at still life artworks I enjoy them however the fact that you can do so much more with a bowl of fruit and drink always crosses my mind. Really make the viewer think about what’s going on there. I also really like how still life ages and it’s atypical to see aged fruit in a still life artwork, there’s a beauty in aged fruit, especially rotting fruit when you see the brown start to show. I decided to paint my still life artwork in motion, as if something happened (I wont throw suggestions as to what, that’s up to you) that caused the still life arrangement to go flying around the canvas. I tried to paint off milk here however I never come across off milk so that’s my best attempt at this time in my life. As a surrealist I also enjoy painting items in the wrong colours. Even though the contents of this artwork are aged and moving around, it’s still, still life. I had this idea in mind for a while, being a big fan of 80’s rock I noticed when 90’s rock is suggested in my playlists there’s no piano solos (concerto’s) and it makes a difference. I find rock more grunge without the piano, it’s disappointing to imagine some of the hits without the piano. Previously having created my artworks ‘The Decomposed Musician’ about the death of the musician as a regular career and ‘Cello’ being the artwork before that, this follows the mini series. I painted the piano rotting like a pear and the previous artworks, and a hand closing the lid then it’s blood drips into the piano’s final red carpet. The piano is attacked and falling apart. The white flag grows out of the dead leaves and out the window to join the previously fallen contributions to music as time passed. A while back I watched a YouTube video about the Victorian Era and learnt that the record player had been invented in 1887 and everyone enjoyed music in their own homes… Essentially the death of the career as a musician being a normal occupation, resulting in the career seeming unattainable to many. This mimics my opinions on art, so many artists opt to sell prints of a painting not thinking that perhaps if they didn’t offer that then buyers would look at real artworks (and prints of hand made artworks are blasphemous). I decided to paint an artwork similar to my ‘Cello’ artwork in terms of the scenery although chose to paint the cello as a pear beginning to rot, alongside rotting grapes and the slightly bloody hand and ear of a musician, plugged by the grape. By limiting musical artists ability to make money through their passion are you ‘biting the hand’ that feeds you? I enjoyed this artwork as I believe I pulled of the gore with tact. Everyday I eat pancakes and in general pretty much drink honey. One day the light hit the honey jar and decided to paint it. Since I pretty much drink it I decided to paint the honey in a fluid manner taking over the fruit around it. This is a digital artwork I created from the elements of a previous artwork, 'Pineapple Crossing' with the intention to create a sequel since the first one was so well received. The artwork ended up entirely different and far more detailed.

I'd been looking for plant pots and came across a listing where the owner had a cat statue and next to it a zebra statue, the zebra had been cut off in the photo so for a moment I thought I'd been looking at a cat with zebra stripes. So I painted a cat with zebra stripes. I wanted to include aspects from a recent paintings 'Self Portrait as Caravaggio as Bacchus' as I enjoyed painting the leaf that folds with the table, this time I painted it with an excessive amount of leaves and as if the cat is a zebra as Bacchus. This time with more aspects that I'd call Bacchus... If this cat's going to be a god of wine then it should be in total control of the vines. So the vines float up around the cat-zebra. I'm also a fan of animals not being perfect in my paintings so I painted this one with an amputated leg, replaced with a wheel. Wall of Bubbles and Floppy Elephants

I started off this painting with a very different idea in mind although as I worked on it another painting sold and I decided to include a similar elephant from that one and then it took a turn to look much more like my digital artworks. I struggled a bit with the technicalities of this paintings base layer texture. Originally I wanted the bubbles to act as an invisible barrier, although the concept is up to the viewer. Self Portrait as Caravaggio as Bacchus

I've been learning about Caravaggio and the first painting I saw in a book was 'Self Portrait as Bacchus'... So I Googled Bacchus, he's the God of Wine. I found it pretty funny that Caravaggio painted himself as the God of Wine although every documentary I saw or read hadn't found the humour in it, some even looked at it as showing off sickness (peoples skin turns yellow when you drink too much, perhaps he were proud?) in terms of help. I decided to paint myself being Caravaggio while he's being Bacchus. It's slightly rushed although as I look at it longer I start to see where I could have improved, specifically in the face shape and shading in general. I chose to make the painting different aside from the general pose, some things in particular are the hair.. Since I'm painting myself being Caravaggio being Bacchus, I decide that the God of Wine's hair ends with a grape or leaf. I changed the vibrancy and colours of the grapes, placements of the peaches and shape of the vines. Copying isn't art so I couldn't see the point in copying a precise replica of the rest of the painting. I felt like making another fruit bowl painting although with a cow hide skin instead of fruit skin, I thought about having one fruit cut open although that idea's probably going to be for a sequel painting. I call it vegan, I'm not the biggest fan of vegan diets so I guess this is my expression that there's no substitute for meat. Can be taken lightly as a metaphor for tofu and how vegans transform it into all the flavours. Not one of my hand stretched paintings, oil based, has a certificate of authenticity and sold ready to hang!

Having a fruit bowl artwork as an artist is a staple, so this is my take on the fruit bowl. Surreal, in my style, the wrong colours and all over the place! After finishing it, my godfather suggested I name it ‘Balanced Diet’, so I named the next one that since it was fitting for the concept.
