I decided to create this artwork during my 80 artworks challenge and in my surroundings sat my painting ‘Watching the Boats Sail Past’ which shows a bunch of boats which are doughnuts. I’ve tried plenty of times in the past to either paint a digital artwork or digitally create a painting and they never work out, the two genres are different. So here I am trying again! This ended up entirely different yet they both look good enough for me to feature though doughnut boats again. They still don’t cross over, I just now have two entirely different styles of doughbots, I’m not sure if this is the most successful attempt to cross over the genres either. The final artwork reminds me of a video game and the boss is a moon. Check out the art venture video of this one, there’s more documented on the making there.

Raining Laser Fruit

This is a digital artwork I created out of curiosity in what it would look like raining laser fruit. I also wanted to create something using the big wave, a night time scene and my fruit images. This was the final result which soon turns into another artwork.

Pear House

I decided to create this as I like it when people create mini worlds and turn regular objects into homes. This is often done with a shoe. I wanted to create a different mini world floating on a cloud similar to my ‘Doughnut Town’, ‘Ice Cream Town’ and some other upcoming artworks you’ll see eventually. It didn’t turn out as expected due to the resolution of the photos I could use, although pretty close!

Sweet Tooth

This is a digital artwork I decided to create without worrying about whether it were too outrageous for people to actually own, just a super sweet artwork. I created the idea based on my 'Beet Pop' artwork with zoo animals instead. I included coloured glass falling from the sky to add to the sweetness and a slightly more vibrant version of my pineapple hot air balloon from older digital artworks.

This is a digital artwork I created from another that I'd recently sold a print of and while packing it thought that I should make a version where the spots of the animals blend in with a wall behind them, instead I ended up making it differently.

The Pyramid Mystery

I recently entered the pyramid rabbit hole, long story short, these are not tombs. It began as I find other peoples point of view interesting so I let conspiracy theories (or just regular theories that the mainstream labels to lower their credibility) enter my YouTube feeds and I think it included a mix of my electronics searches because I came across a pyramid generator theory by Chris Dunn. The entire topic is fascinating and has merit so I don’t think my painting reflects all the ideas I came across but I wanted to paint something pyramid. One point that I want to share, through art, is that we seem to under the mainstream impression that Egypt has always been a desert but there’s water erosion marks all over the Sphinx. Water plays a big part in a lot of the science explaining alternate histories. The pyramids generator theory is pretty complicated but I started the painting when learning about the aquifers part of the theory which is the very beginning of the generator theory, so I painted the pyramid of water. I also wanted to reflect two older artworks named, ‘Priorities’ and ‘Priorities 2’. The artwork wasn’t very planned out but as I continued to paint I put in plenty of effort into the spikes, also referencing my recent artwork ‘Thinking Things Up’ I learnt about the mystery of the tunnels that lead under the Sphinx so I added those into it. At some point I wanted to add more, then another point I decided to keep it simple and make more artworks to share the ideas. This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

The Hallucination

One day I was colouring in my colouring in book and felt an ant crawling on my hand, I then looked again and it was gone. You could say it jumped off or something, but I went down a thought trail and wondered if the ant was ever there in the first place? I had just read a book, ‘Genius, The Natural History of Creativity’ by H. J. Eysenck which explains that studies show more creative people tend to sit closer on the scale to psychosis. So wondering whether I’m immune to this trend was on my mind, if I am, am I not even that creative? Is the creativity a hallucination too? I continued the thought alongside this fresh new insight on psychology, it’s possible I imagined the ant… It’s possible I’m imagining everything around me. You could be insane and never know it. I shared the thought with a friend, she added we might not even be friends and either of us could be sitting there alone talking to ourselves. Then you add the reality that reality is just warped to your perspective and what you engage with. So if nothing’s real, then everything’s real and there’s no such thing as anything. From there I decided to paint the ants. I painted my hand but they’ve opened up a rabbit hole for me so I painted holes in the hands where birds fly in and out, like the birds in my artworks. I decided nothing’s real so the table turns into an ocean and some boats seem to be on struggle street knocked over. Then you’ll see that turns into a wave of water and travels into the distance. I tried making the room warp at the edges and the clouds sit as a pendant inside. The birds on the window are a reference to my digital artwork ‘Cockatoo’s at My Window’ This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

After heading off to West Head to grab photos of the view I decided I wanted a tidal wave artwork, so this is what I ended up creating. It was a challenge, especially with my skill level at the time.

Inception

I woke up from a dream shortly before painting this artwork, well... I thought I woke up from a dream, then I thought I woke up from a dream again, then I woke to a dream that was actually a dream then I actually woke up. I found this insane, I’d never had such a weird experience and had to paint it, I felt like Christopher Nolan must have had a similar dream in order to feel compelled to write ‘Inception’. All that aside, I rushed into painting it and don’t think I captured what I felt, but here’s to the first attempt! The first two dreams were entirely mundane which threw me off, the last one, clearly I was in a dream at that point. So I painted an entry, a super basic entry, then a garden, then a wave in a room. I painted the bird to be a common occurrence in each, watching you figure it out. This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

Eating Crepes

This artwork is a slight continuation from last week and a mix of another artwork I created a while back which I enjoy, ‘Midnight Snack’. There’s something I haven’t been able to recreate about that artwork yet so I gave it another go with this artwork (not quite there yet). I’m really into my crepes, I think I’ve got them down. Each day at brunch I have a lovely snack with crepes admiring how the plants have grown over the past day. I have them with a coffee, ham and creamed honey and used to have a swarm of bees visit (hoping to staunch some honey). This artwork in my take on that part of my day, but the feeling of it, not the look. This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

Busking Acrylic Painting

This is an artwork I recently made while busking, I decided I wanted to paint busking, while busking. The pathway is the people passing by, the water is the fountain behind me and I wanted to turn the crossing into thoughts (of bubbles). The goal was to incorporate ideas from old artworks like the water from, ‘Unexpected’, the crossing from ‘Crossing the Desert’ but to my surprised I thought up a new idea while painting in front of people and decided to put the cowhide pattern on the bubbles. If I were alone painting I would have ventured further into this idea so expect it to pop up in an artwork soon. A woman didn’t read the room and sat to my right for longer than I liked and that’s why the right is more bare than the left. I’ve decided not to varnish the artwork as I’m not sure if I want to paint over it since it’s made of acrylic and I prefer oils. The artwork’s concept was also compromised due to busking conditions so it’s not as finished as I’d liked. Video of the busking adventure on my Patreon if you’re interested! There’s no timelapse of this artwork but there will be an artventure video. I’ve also decided that this is the first of an idea I’ll work on for the next year, one budget friendly artwork a month. I price my artworks so people won’t feel compelled to throw them out when their decor changes (and increasing skill), so if you buy one of the budget friendly artworks please show the same respect as if you bought it for $700. The rest will be on cardboard, like Edvard Munch’s Scream. This one will be varnished on sale so expect a week delay for postage, it’ll be sold with a certificate of authentication and ready to hang.
