We all knew for the dawn of time that if you peek over at the smart kids test and copy them you get absolutely nowhere once school ends. For some reason the exact same lesson in a different futuristic concept with robots seems to be entirely lost. I began painting a dodo wedged between a stack of books aiming to look as if he’d outsmarted the system by not reading the books. Then that wasn’t going well and I went to Europe and returned to abandon the idea. Then as I painted the artwork decided to return to the concept but this time with far more detail. I painted my bird flowers (flowers that fly off into birds) then decided that some of them decide to take a swim in the Kool-aid/ golden lake then lose their wings and climb up the stack of books as if that’s their key to freedom.
It’s not flying if you’re just standing up in a high spot.
Interestingly as I painted this I learnt that dodo’s weren’t dumb but evolved without any predators which lead hem to extinction. Since being dumb is their reputation I kept with it. It’s a human thing.
