A short while before making this artwork I decided I wanted some insight into religions so I visited different places of worship during their usual worship time as a fly on the wall experience. I originally planned on visiting a Christian church, an Islam mosque and a Buddhist temple. Unfortunately this is a more exclusive activity than I thought and couldn’t figure out the Buddhist schedule. I visited an Anglican church and an Islam mosque and took part in their services. Ironically I went in expecting what the media portrayed, being in a western society we are convinced that muslims are dangerous and people of Christ are welcoming. Now flip that perspective to imagine what I experienced. I sat in the Anglican Church biting my tongue listening to the bible being recited on how they laid waste and destroyed the other beliefs scrolls (I personally hate burning literature) then praised blindly believing that God will save you. I asked, “Don’t you think you need to solve your own problems for God to open up opportunities instead of just prey?”. They preached that you are always right as well. I left feeling somewhat violated as if they’re raising narcs in that particular church. I then visited Islam and joined in with the prayers, this time they preached getting your act together, fasting is approaching and you need to be prepared, they preached contacting your loved ones and checking in. A fantastic 30m pep talk anyone could do with. The people were welcoming and I left feeling like the media wrongly portrays Muslims… or perhaps the individual journalists are prejudice. But one thing was true with both experiences. Their God/ Allah is the one true God/ Allah. Yours is wrong and they are both worshiping the right way. So this artwork is the two religions talking to each other debating who’s right. The Anglican has a severed arm from their preaching and the Muslim is put off by their actions. I recently saw a TikTok video of what people considered a really shit wedding portrait. This is news to me that artists are hired for an extraordinary amount to paint live! I thought I’d kick ass at this and want to get in on it so I began busking to practice in front of people. If you watch the time-lapse on my time-lapse YouTube you’ll see I do the first two hours live, there’s a two hour limit on site. Since this is practice I’m just selling it cheap. It’s the second of the five and sold on site! Acrylic on cardboard and sold with a certificate of authenticity.

Humans are a communal species. It’s a fact. In the past few years I’ve noticed the increasing hostility in the community, and I’m still figuring out whether it’s the times or whether that’s just what it’s like once you’ve settled into being an adult… The veil of everyone putting on a nice front being gone? Either way, I find it incredibly ironic. I look at nature a lot and see how they all work together. I was watching some birds that seemed to be on the same team but wouldn’t share the food I threw at them. One was just too dumb to recognise the extra piece it put down was exactly what it’s chasing the other bird for. It’s funny that they’re hopping around together but also protecting their bounty like Gollum and his ring.

It’s like people but I think they’re trying to keep their pride instead of a piece of food. So I painted a bunch of jolly looking birds held together by barbed wire. The original plan was to have feet but it didn’t work out, so I mimicked my ‘Flock Party’ painting and included balloons too. The feathers fly about like they do in a bird fight and the intertwined barbed wire drips blood. During my 80 artworks challenge I thought about painting this when pausing to look for inspiration for a digital artwork. I wasn’t inspired by anything the other artists were doing, however I did notice something very sad. One popular artist made a few skits where she aimed to be comical and barely showed the artwork. Another wrote “I’ll show you this painting every day until I sell 100 prints” as he did a manly twirl and bopped around with the artwork. First, don’t sell prints. I’m firmly against prints of paintings. Second… Why would anyone buy that (to give description it were a white Chewbacca looking animal, and well executed). Art isn’t just a pretty picture and no matter how much you dance around or make skits, you’re not giving people a reason to buy the artwork. Neither of these “artists” gave any insight as to why they created it except décor. This really grinded my gears, and once again (like my artwork ‘Call for Shitty Artists’) I’m deeply disappointed to be in the same category. These people are putting minimal effort into the “artworks” and maximum effort into making themselves look good for the social attention. I’m looking forward to the day they give up on calling themselves artists and go with influencer or comic. On the left of this painting is another artist propping himself up in the same water’s I swim in, only he’s using his artworks to prop himself up, stay dry, and not get his hands dirty. On the right is me swimming, trying to keep my artwork out of the water. The artwork is what people need to see, not the artist. This artwork had it’s struggles as I think this might have been the round where I aimed to make either 12 or 14 artworks in that week. Time vs skill came into play here. I do document my art process on a few YouTubes and Patreon but it’s entirely different and unscripted… Kind of like an actual documentation, you know, the 90’s definition. Fill The Room

There’s an artwork I made and sold, still my favourite, named ‘Trauma’. Before making this painting I remembered a neighbour visiting my place and he went up to the painting in awe (because they’re all better in real life) and said “It’s so abstract!” I’m not an abstract artist, in any regard. Funny and annoying statement, it’s a compliment but not if you have reservations about abstract art the way I do. This artwork grabbed the attention of people in the room, goal achieved, and still trying to do the same with other artworks. So I painted the presence of that artwork in this one, a cactus in the middle of the room, while everyones going about their day but it still fills the room. Art enthusiasts, plant people… some people get it. There’s something special about inanimate objects. I continue on this thought in a different painting about painting vs moving image. While creating it I also tried to capture a new type of scene as opposed to the desert scene I like to do, I glanced upon ’By Lamplight’ by Harriet Backer which I really appreciated and tried something indoors with light peering through. Portrait of My Sadness

A while back I felt sad and since the universe dumped an excessive amount of talent this way, I decided to paint a portrait of my sadness to make other people feel sad when they stop and watch the artwork. This isn’t a self portrait. Since a smile is contagious, so is everything else. I added a severed hand, the idea originally spawned from a recently sold artwork ‘The Decomposed Musician’ then I decided it’s representative of the memories that keep their grip. Floating fruit in the background representing my art goals as unfocused 3D glasses since being sad makes it hard to focus on them. Birds stuck in the wall, unlike all my other bird artworks where they fly freely and a frame around her head as women are strongly influenced to keep from confronting issues and sit pretty, until it’s too late to communicate. With the hand holding the frame in place and the vines pulling it back slightly. This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

Goals Staring Back at Me

I began this painting when I challenged myself to create 11 paintings in one week. This one would have been a challenge on it's own since paintings with faces always take longer, I didn't finish it in that week. I originally had the idea to paint just a crowd looking toward the front of the painting, somewhat confronting then decided to include buildings and ended up with just a few faces (Caravaggio faces, since I had to pick a face) on mounds looking at the viewer. I named it 'Goals Staring Back at Me' as if I've let go of a few of them temporarily and they're waiting, staring back at me. Hello, No

I made this painting after learning that for each language there's a sign language... instead of there only being one universal sign language. So I learnt a bit, this painting has a hand on the left which says hello in Bulgarian (BSL) and no in Auslan. The whole genre seemed exclusive and excluded to me. Bulgaria only just passed a bill to recognize BSL as a language in January of this year (2021), before that, from what I've learnt, they would learn Russian sign language in school and then adopt their own in the real world. I feel like that's just how Bulgarians do things, their own way. I painted a clear sheet falling down, metaphorical for the language barriers. So you say “Hi” in Bulgarian and rejected with a “No” in Auslan. Oil Based, hand stretched, signed and ready to hang with a certificate of authenticity.

Blasphemy of Decor Art

I decided to paint my feelings on décor art. The walls are cactus spikes, like some of my best paintings, at the bottom I painted a man hanging a frame (the décor art.......) as if he's framing the wall and at the top I painted a nod to renaissance art where you can see roof arches and biblical characters in them. Jesus is on the right, dead and holding up two fingers as his coat melts and flies away in the form of little birds. On the right you can see a man ready to jump the wall (for a fihgt), being held back by another and a woman watching over, hiding. I use the word frank as an adjective. Sometimes, when someone’s being frank they may come to a conclusion without having full thought through the idea or researched the topic and often encounter people who tell me they “don’t get art” and to them a painting on a wall may as well be a black hole for money, which to be frank, is quite a statement to tell someone about their career. Yet to me it’s ironic that people can appreciate the beauty of the rest of the world around them, just not value an idea being presented as an image. It’s interesting, so that’s what I painted.
