This was a digital artwork that took quite a while, I spent 18 hours turning my beetle furry, then by the time I’d completed that, I’d photographed some pumpkins and decided to use them there and recolour the pumpkins. I feel like I didn’t exist tot fully utilise the fur I spent so long on, but I like how the artwork turned out.

While listening to a podcast the guest began playing a song which I then shazamed. I was surprised to learn that the artist was Charles Manson, but I do sit in the camp of separating the art from the artist so I decided to paint him as the rock star he never became. This was also my first artwork being documented in the form of a “How to” so each step was documented with incredible detail. I decided to paint an outfit as a mix of ideas from 80’s rock stars, the guitar and tattoo are odes to his cult and the expression is Bruce Springsteens. A guest recently visited and mentioned the expression makes her uncomfortable which is precisely how I wanted it to turn out. To have that Charles Manson crazy face look but also showing that expression Bruce showcases in the example photo. Every now and then I learn about a new phenomenon named “x” paradox. This time It was the Abilene paradox which is very fitting for western culture in recent years. There are plenty of rules being made up and no one thinks they’re reasonable. For example, Australia is using AI to enforce seatbelt fines, to achieve a road toll of zero. However the AI doesn’t work and the road toll is increasing since these fresh forms of distributing fines, so it doesn’t work. However anyone could predict that more surveillance would make drivers poorer drivers. So the Abilene Paradox is when there’s a group who needs to make a decision, eat the apple or the orange for example, and the majority think that everyone else wants the apple so they vote apple but in reality they want the orange and didn’t voice it in an attempt to stick with the group and be accepted. To visualise this I first thought up painting some still life where one half is floating and a different colour, or geometry, like that Simpsons episode where Homer enters a 3D space in the wall and have triangles flying through the air. Instead I glanced over at my colouring in book 2023 edition cover and decided to also include another challenge where I try to paint giraffes similar to my digital artworks. It’s always a challenge and I think I completed it to a better standard this time. So this is the result, the group of giraffes are all on a sick one mixed up in their decisions and the bodies are still grounded, hollow. I decided to paint this artwork after painting a very detailed artwork ‘LLM Lobotomy’ and came away from it thinking I just want to paint blue. While doing my research I decided to paint an arch that you see in many romanticism artworks, probably because of the architecture at the time. Then I decided that I want it in the sky and to just paint the scene you imagined you’d have when you grow up and have all the money in the world. You’d buy those exotic animals and have too many cars so one would always be parked and under cover in your fancy garage in the sky. So that’s what I ended up painting, the future that the child version of you wanted but in reality no one actually wants the obstacles that come with a bunch of extra cars and exotic animals. It’s fun to have it as an artwork though. I enjoyed working on the level of detail in this one compared to my older artworks. This artwork was requested as a non-commission based on a previous artwork I created, 'ROMSOM' which is an acronym for reflection of my state of mind and created based on a study which showed that the more greyscale a persons instagram was, the more depressive symptoms they exhibited. I'd say I've improved in painting clouds so this request ended up being a really fun challenge. This time I didn't include black in the clouds and approached them differently which I think worked out really well! There were other challenges that were interesting to paint, like the motion of the propeller and the tiny figures. This time round, since it's a non-commission, I'm allowed creative freedom and in the era of my career I'm in right now I'm really enjoying painting tiny figures in my artworks, like the artwork 'Surrealists and Psychology' and 'Running Wild with Still Life'. So I included tiny figures that pop up in my other artworks, like horses in poses you'd never be able to photograph, bunnies floating around, cacti like my main artwork 'Trauma' and my cowhide pears. I see it as you're in the sky scape of your imagination and these items are zooming around doing their own thing. What was really fun about this artwork was the request for a biplane somewhere, once I looked up examples it became a really interesting part of the artwork to paint as I've never painted one before. In the end I decided to name the artwork ROBSOM as a play on the prequel's title but instead it's Rob's state of mind. I'm embarking on a project to print my darts (digital artworks) in-house. tl;dr to get there I want to offer pre-order prints and below are the aspects of this project so you know what you're buying.
Lore:
The darts were previously printed on this beautiful pearlescent photo paper but I had to discontinue it because I'm quite the butter fingers and ended up ruining about half before I managed to post them. The profit margin also sat at about $20 each. From there I decided to increase the quality and sell more durable prints which became sublimated metal prints and drove the price up from $50 to $370. I instantly noticed a drop in sales so I can confirm the price is a pain point for the art lovers.
Since sales dropped dramatically the digital artworks became more focused towards my colouring in book series and I didn't keep up with the cost of production. A recent sale has now exposed the fact that I'm no longer making 40% of the profits but just 10%, before postage costs. So if you spend $1800AUD including postage (to Florida as an example), I only earn $130, but I still do all the leg work of travelling to Sydney to pickup the print, packing and posting it to you.
Solution:
Since then I've been researching how to print the files in-house so I can save on production costs. To do this I need to collect about $15,500 in order to purchase two machines, the blanks, the frames and consumables as well as have a seperate circuit wired up here for the machines. I've buffered how much I need for each section by increasing the total a tad so I don't undercut my budget.
The machines:
- A heat press: I've chosen a 60cm x 100cm sized heat press due to costs for larger machines becoming exponentially higher. I have found one press that is 100cm x 120cm that is great however this requires three phase and also increases the cost of the electrician as I'll need a different meter and electricity consumption. I'll be looking at this option when my business progresses. Postage may land at about $500 judging by how expensive my artworks may be to post.
- Printer: I require a special sublimation printer with specific ink and I've narrowed my search down to two printers. I'm likely to order the $10,000 Mutoh printer because I like Brother as a printing company, trust their printers and they partner with Mutoh. This is also the most budget friendly printer available in the size I need. There is a second Epson option which costs $14,000 and Epson is known to do sublimation well so if my budget expands Ii'll consider this option. For now I'm going to the Mutoh printer. Postage may land at about a thousand judging by how expensive my artworks are to post.

We all knew for the dawn of time that if you peek over at the smart kids test and copy them you get absolutely nowhere once school ends. For some reason the exact same lesson in a different futuristic concept with robots seems to be entirely lost. I began painting a dodo wedged between a stack of books aiming to look as if he’d outsmarted the system by not reading the books. Then that wasn’t going well and I went to Europe and returned to abandon the idea. Then as I painted the artwork decided to return to the concept but this time with far more detail. I painted my bird flowers (flowers that fly off into birds) then decided that some of them decide to take a swim in the Kool-aid/ golden lake then lose their wings and climb up the stack of books as if that’s their key to freedom. It’s not flying if you’re just standing up in a high spot. Interestingly as I painted this I learnt that dodo’s weren’t dumb but evolved without any predators which lead hem to extinction. I’m not a fan of the algorithms controlling my entertainment and ended up watching a bunch of old movies from the 90’s and 2000’s. We all already know that movies these days will likely suck in comparison, then adding in the internet where people upload reaction videos daily for the sake of uploading and people watch them for the sake of having background noise. We aren’t truly entertained here. There’s a few movies you can watch dozens.. maybe hundreds of times and still be entertained since they’re so well written. LOTR for example, or I ended up watching Impromptu many times. Then I decided to paint Hugh Grant statues as if each statue has a turn on stage and each time we notice something different about how the production was delivered. In the background behind the wall is the death of entertainment where a bunny on it’s last legs crawls out of the horror of braindead entertainment. I made an artwork which I still consider my best, ‘Trauma’, and haven’t been able to recreate one just as good but I think this one might be on par. Just with less effort visible in the paint since I did all the practice on that artwork. The cacti I paint are people, roughly. This time I wanted to paint flow state, it’s the state of mind where you’re absorbed in your task but in so deep you forget you’re doing it and work autonomously while your mind wanders. This is where I am when I paint, in the rabbit hole. I think it deserved an artwork. In the bottom right I added a cherry, for the ideas that randomly pop into mind when in flow state and the clouds focused on the cactus. A million years ago in science class it stuck with me that the teacher emphasised how everything melts with time. He specified that even glass melts, as the bottom will be wider than the top a hundred years from now. Super interesting fact! Makes me think of it every time I come across a video where someone hunts down fossils inside rocks, the imprint of the living thing is interesting as I imagine the process of the living thing became stone. So I began this artwork wanting to paint the ground, the dirt, blue to resemble water, and instead it just began to resemble water. Then I included rain the way I like to paint rain, as sheets of clear blue, and a melting/ evaporating moon. If you check out the time lapse or opinionated video of the making you’ll see that I added other items then decided less is more for this artwork. I decided to paint this artwork just because I want you, the person reading this right now, to know that during the Cold War the CIA decided to strap cameras on pigeons to spy. I found this hilarious and wanted you to know about it too. The main reason I found it hilarious is as an avid DIY-er I’ve had more than enough things turn out wobbly, and this is exactly how this project turned out, a bit wobbly. The footage wasn’t ideal. As a surrealist I needed to paint this artwork in a surreal manner, plus that’s far more interesting than just human-printing out a photo you can look up. I wanted them to appear a bit strange, the way you’d feel if one landed near you. As I you’re being watched. So I added a chromatic effect and leads to the hands that are watching you. I also wanted to embody the kind of background I’d create in my digital artworks, a clear reflection as if they’re on glass and tried to use green as the sky, like my ‘Surrealists and Psychology’ artwork. This artwork went through three lives, see the documentation of the making in either the opinionated or the timeless to see it unfold. I began wanting to paint the concept that the simulation theory is just modern platonism, but the layout was rushed. Then I decided to paint different forms of water as a skill challenge, but I wanted to do it in a day as part of twenty-one artworks in twenty-one days. I then wrapped up that project and attended a lecture where I believe confirmed my opinion that we’re in the depths of a world-wide Dunning-Kruger effect with AI. The lecturer seemed to have zero concept on how vibe coders are actually creating terrible code, Obama also seems to think AI code is exceptional for some reason. I doubt he’s tried, and if he did, I assure you he’s not skilled at coding. Both claims from world renowned, respected people with no professional claim in the fields they say AI is making progress in. I’ll make more artworks on the other idea’s spawned from this but this one shows the concept of how we’re mainly using AI wrong. A fantastic concept included a video game where the boss learns your moves and makes it harder for you to win, genuinely building your human skills instead of doing it for you. Yet we live in a world where we’re too cautious to let AI be the obstacle over the enabler. The dumb will become dumber and the intelligent will prosper further creating a huge gap in our species. While in uni we covered the topic of whether graffiti is art or criminal (spoiler, the law says any paint on any surface that you don’t own is crime) which lead to the lecturer stating that law needs crime, the police need the criminals to keep coming in order to exist. That thought, alongside recently dealing with insane people (check out my car sign being stolen video now on YT as an example) I experienced how difficult it is to have the justice system help you out when your issue is small, yet still invasive enough that in black and white you are entitled to the help. Rewarding bad behaviour I guess. So you end up stressed out dealing with an insane person and on top of that dealing with the stress of not having a problem entertaining enough for actual help and knowing there will be consequences if you stand up for yourself outside the justice system. So the cycle continues, you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place while the system primes you to join the insanity club hoping you’ll just defend yourself. I don’t think I expressed that idea well in this artwork so I’m thinking I’ll redo it, but here’s the first version. This is the system and the lollipop begins whole then melts and is pumped back up to build up the lollipop again. I added a cloud as the environment causing the loop but I definitely regret the lightning added. Recently I made twenty-one artworks in twenty-one days and on the final day I needed to create seven digital artworks in seven hours, then I added one more because I rage quit on a painting and this is that final one. It was pretty early the next day (still counts as the previous day though!) so I only spent 35 minutes on this. I went in with the idea to make a car sandwich of cloud buns. It’s pretty tough making art at 5am so I couldn’t make it very complicated. I also wanted to make the sky red… A while back I was asked to make a painting with a red sky, and I did and every now and then I think about how a red sky could be used and work. This now makes it eight artworks in seven and a half hours.

I was watching the Zuckerberg Joe Rogan interview and Zuckerberg is ‘Red pilling’ just a bit… Over the past year I’ve been watching conspiracy theories for art but the ones I’ve seen (most of them) have merit. However, you can’t explain that to someone who hasn’t given more than two seconds to any of these theories without being labelled a conspiracy theorist. It’s the same as giving a movie half the trailer. I found it important to watch different people discuss the same topic. So this is the red pill… Being labelled a conspiracy theorist. I put a laser for the pyramid plant theory, a wrap to represent muslims (soon to make an artwork about religions), a satellite for the propaganda, the document where Albanese tried to cancel the internet, a COVID clot and more. I am the last person you should ask what the time is, ever. This artwork is part of my twenty in twenty days and the entire time I consistently gauged the time wrong which affected the project. While brainstorming idea’s I reflected on how I’ve encountered people who are sticklers for time, down to the minute. The kind who think being five minutes late is late, I’ve definitely been grilled by these people because they explain they think it’s out of disrespect for them. So I felt like painting a visual of what time looks like in my world vs what it’s probably like in theirs. I’m the left… and sometimes my total mess happens to throw a little shade on their blocks. It’s not intentional, my blocks are a mess all the time and sometimes there’s collateral damage. I find it vein when these people walk around thinking people bad with time are out to disrespect them. In 2018 I took a photograph of my bike at Bobbin Head and manipulated it to look as it does, ‘Bike Bobbin’. I wanted to recreate the artwork but change it to have two bikes crashing in the air, perhaps use the bikes from ‘Motorcloud’ and ‘Cloudcycle’. Instead I didn’t as I decided to complete 7 artworks in 7 hours, which soon became 8 artworks in 8 hours and this was the result. A tad rushed.

I decided to complete this artwork during one of my 20 artworks in 20 days challenges so it’s not my best work, however I didn’t enjoy looking at Hitlers portrait and I didn’t like looking at Albanese’s any more. This is an artwork I thought up while creating the previous digital artwork where I’d use a tool in Photoshop to smudge the colours of all the layers and add saturation to create a 60’s style colour mess. Now that I’m using Affinity Photo I needed to recreate this but without the tool but figure out how to make the pixels do that myself. This was successful and that’s the pattern you see behind the zebra stripes. Alongside that I wanted to add a wild mane and coffee pouring in a really straight fashion. The artwork turned out very close to what I imagined, goal accomplished!

Shortly before painting this artwork I adventured to the NSW Gallery and admired the skill in the historic artworks that depict clouds, that alongside an installation that reminds me of Khazad-Dum and the dragons castle in Shrek. When I’m in a place like this, with pillars everywhere, there’s a specific atmosphere that comes along with it so I wanted to convey that with this artwork. This artwork follows one I created in 2019, ‘Corporate’. I really like it, even the version I can colour in in my colouring in books. The artwork also follows on from my other artwork, ‘Trauma’ where the universe just dumps paint on you and you need to grow through it. When I worked in corporate I hated it, I was rapidly wasting my life being a puppet for people I swear are incredibly miserable. Selling my soul… Quite often people who work nine to five tell me about what’s really grinding their gears at the time. Work’s always the focus of their attention and never positive, then you hear about how team mates throw each other ‘under the bus’. It’s a total mess. I originally named the artwork “Corporate Mess” painting a continuation of the previous artwork, just zoomed out, hen decided to name it “2”. When creating this artwork I decided I wanted to make some thug birds. This is them. My friend has an inside joke where she calls all cockatoo’s ‘Collin’ following a story where she had a baby the same time as some resident cockatoos. Every time I hear the name though I think of a lad. So this title felt fitting.

I think history will look back on COVID the way it looks back on the Holocaust, with a union on governments as opposed to Hitler running the show (and remember, there was propaganda from the time too). I wasn’t against the vaccines but I was hesitant and definitely put it off with the sole reason being that it couldn’t possibly have been tested on childbearing aged women and the offspring. The Zika virus is what came to mind. However when I specifically asked how it could affect reproduction I was told it’s safe. Later on I watched ‘Died Suddenly’ the documentary on the actual clots humans are getting and in it showed that Australian birth rates plummeted shortly after we were campaigned to get the shots. I then decided to look it up myself and it was true, it’s now late 2023 and ABS website still hadn’t declared still births and the birth rates dropped. The website specifically said they’re restructuring how to present the data, and if you know stats then you know that stats are the easiest way to factually present false data. I felt personally betrayed on this one. So I decided to make a painting on something I don’t think we’ll really noticed until the statistic dip reaches an age where they were to begin interacting with society. In my artworks I use cacti to represent people so the trend continues here, however I chose blue because I wanted to make them like water, but also a night before a friend of mine died I had a dream that he went around saying bye to everyone and he had this incredibly bright blue tie on. So that’s where the death blue comes from. Half way through painting I decided it’s better to blind fold the baby. This ones for the babies that didn’t make it. I find still life an interesting topic of art, it’s mostly hit or miss and I’m yet to find one in-between. A while back I painted a few satire artworks on still life and vases (‘Vases for Decor Purposes’ or ‘Fruit Bowl’, I think it’s fun to play with the genre so I began this artwork ready to paint some very detailed still life and then ended up wanting to add movement with a parade of horses running through, they swim out of the still life and dive back into it. During an adventure to the PIX exhibition I saw a photograph of a car, I’m not sure if the tyres were white walls or actually glowing, it’s a black and white photo I only briefly looked at but I liked the idea. So I began working on a digital artwork where the tyres would glow and that’s the only goal. This artwork ended up going through a couple transformations and it may be worth watching the making of it.

I don’t like abstract art. The fact that people use the word “abstract” in so many situations where it doesn’t make sense bothers me, people have said “It’s so abstract!” when looking at my artworks… There is nothing abstract about my paintings, until now. Adding to that I’m upset that there are many decor artists calling themselves abstract artists in order to be treated as a successful artist in the view of sales, however in my point of view it’s very easy to sell decor. A real artwork needs time to be considered before purchasing and speaks to the art lover… Something entirely lost on decor. No, you will not see me throw paint or resin at a canvas for sales. I may however, do it as satire. Since the word ‘abstract’ bothers me so much I decided it’s time I make a real abstract artwork. One where I paint what I see in the form of shapes that don’t necessarily form an object where it would result in a consensus on what it represents, the definition. I painted each item with intent, here lies an apple fallen from an apple tree on a sunny day and music plays. I also definitely want to know what other people see. This kitten in this artwork is a photo I took of a kitten I once fostered and named ‘Trump’. Lately I’ve wanted to use photos from older artworks and fix them up so I can re-use the item in new artworks. For this one I took Trump from my artwork, ‘Trump Blanket’ and really like the concept of that artwork but it’s hard to top. Instead this is the outcome, I still wanted to create something surreal and instead of putting her in bubbles I decided to have a go at creating an hourglass.

This is my second digital artwork using Affinity Photo and an attempt to live stream my dart making (which didn’t go as planned). Despite that the idea came from a previous artwork where I wanted to make zebra striped animals then ended up creating my Zeblephant.

I’ve noticed western society lives in a culture where people act like they’re on the edge all the time. The Karen. People going around exaggerating any ordinary situation into the worst possible obscure outcome then using it as an example to virtue signal how great they are to want to avoid this potential danger. It’s odd behaviour and it’s contagious. So I painted these people as if they’re blow up toys, all floating around, bouncing off each other. Out the window though is the real world with a little barbed wire in the way. Which is of coarse a sure instant death and much safer to stay crammed in the room daydreaming about potential fears. I also wanted to paint this idea using blow up toys not only as a fitting metaphor but also a personal challenge to see how I’d go painting these. Before this artwork I finished a painting named ‘My Bird Shit’s All Over Naomi’s’ It’s a shot at a woman who calls herself and artist and used the guise of virtue signalling to act racist and create problems for me. I used art to vent my frustrations instead of going online and starting some sort of battle with her. This is what I really like about art, it can be used in so many ways and one of them is a tactile response to real life events. Rappers are known for doing his, Eminem, Kanye. I think it’s funny… Crafting an artwork that makes someone reflect on their actions, or better yet, left in a position where the only worthy response is through art. So I created an artwork that I really wanted to put plenty of detail into now that I’d finished my 80 artworks project. I painted a ditch with a maze like arrangement of pathways fenced around to say “Hey, this is my space, stay out”. Inside, if you can find it is a person walking. They didn’t make it across to the other side. I painted exits that don’t really make sense like a large doorway as if it reaches the sky… but this entire space is underground. Stairs that lead to stairs, a hidden door way and so on. The thought behind the artwork is, don’t enter the labyrinth of an artists domain if you can’t respond using your talents. I also think artists should use their skills more often to make criticisms instead of playing into minority themed art to get ahead. This artwork is an appropriation of a 17th century Swedish leading artist David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl’s 1670 artwork ‘Negro with Parrots and Monkeys’. When I saw this artwork originally I really enjoyed the composition and expression used. However we live in a cancel culture where even in the most fitting situations we aren’t allowed to mention a growing vocabulary of words purely because someone else has repeatedly used them in a derogatory manner and therefore it’s assumed all uses of the word are derogatory. “The asian girl over there” for example, is now considered a racist comment instead of describing the person you’re referring to. I feel as if I’m not allowed to tell anyone about the original artwork, it’s now considered racist despite portraying the opposite of how we now associate the word, negro. By appropriating this artwork I’m giving the original artwork a new platform to be seen, we shouldn’t shun art history out of fear of using a word in the most appropriate context and being cancelled. I could have named it “I’m not allowed to title this artwork” but I don’t believe that would have reflected the original enough or even conveyed the point I’m making. I have two other appropriations and they’re each titled referencing the originals. I did think about just appropriating the artwork into my own style, surrealist and bold colours although after starting I changed my mind and tried to ring true to the thin and many layers artists of the time would have used. Putting censor bars and staying true to the style seemed more appropriate to my goal. The approach to thinly layering paint didn’t sit well with me and I ended up stopping this to paint a massive artwork in my own style. Toward the end of this artwork I ended up rage quitting because I felt like it took too long. Had I isolated more time in the first week of this artwork then I would have stayed interested in keeping it realistic. I wasn’t able to perfectly match the perspective. I’ve joined the masses turning their backs on Adobe and this is my first digital artwork using Affinity Photo. This was mainly a learning curve and I’m not sure it’s my best concept but a good start to hopefully some great Affinity made artworks! I wanted to create an electric wall by using textures that I’d create in Photoshop like smudging and adjustment layer or placing a glow around it. I ended up making the vines glow and even created a much better lemur (in terms of fur) than I could have in Photoshop. The overall intention was to create a window where the clouds are actually doughnuts, so I tried to show that with some of them spanning across to the neighbouring window. I also added the albino giraffes referencing my painting, ‘The Game’, while the doughnuts reference my painting, ‘Cravings’.

After my previous digital artwork, ‘Coffee on the Table’, I wanted to continue the trend of a very realistic setting however I’ve also taken on quite a few projects at the moment and am short of new background photos. So I decided to use my trusty Royal National Park photo for this one. I challenged myself by using much less saturated colours than usual and editing the landscape just a little bit as well. In general I wanted to use my bicycle from ‘Messy Bicycle’ and put it into this new style. In the end I’m pretty pleased with it but want to try different tactics with a photo background I’ve taken. I also felt like throwing in the regular protagonists from my other artworks.

Humans are a communal species. It’s a fact. In the past few years I’ve noticed the increasing hostility in the community, and I’m still figuring out whether it’s the times or whether that’s just what it’s like once you’ve settled into being an adult… The veil of everyone putting on a nice front being gone? Either way, I find it incredibly ironic. I look at nature a lot and see how they all work together. I was watching some birds that seemed to be on the same team but wouldn’t share the food I threw at them. One was just too dumb to recognise the extra piece it put down was exactly what it’s chasing the other bird for. It’s funny that they’re hopping around together but also protecting their bounty like Gollum and his ring. It’s like people but I think they’re trying to keep their pride instead of a piece of food. So I painted a bunch of jolly looking birds held together by barbed wire. The original plan was to have feet but it didn’t work out, so I mimicked my ‘Flock Party’ painting and included balloons too. The feathers fly about like they do in a bird fight and the intertwined barbed wire drips blood. I’m in the mood to switch up my style just a little bit for a while. When I began manipulating photos they had a very realistic look as I didn’t change the background, I decided to return to that approach although with the idea in mind that I want to bring the cleaned up edited objects from my more recent artworks and merge the two styles. I’ve been looking around my place imagining the objects that have been in my digital artworks so that’s where this idea came from, I also really enjoy my ‘Astrology Cup’ artwork so I worked from there.

I was listening to ‘Another Brick in the Wall’ and wanted to paint a wall of birds that tesselate like bricks. It could just be my location, surely everyone in the world isn’t like this, but I never meet anyone following their dreams, everyones doing what they’re expected to do and I get an earful pretty often on why their job or day sucks. It’s become a novelty. From that thought I painted a wall of birds, and title it “Where are you?” I want people to see the title and answer the question, where are they? I answer it by saying I’m not there. Some people might decide they like one of the birds more than another and decide that’s where they fit in. I didn’t start this artwork with a goal in mind but wanted to create a turtle version of my ‘Bicycle Bridge’ where a turtle is stuck between two somewhat cliff edges. The image of the turtle doesn’t really fill the page so I changed my mind to creating a curvy wave that’s blowing bubbles and have the turtles climb across it. That idea didn’t last long and I ended up with clouds inside some bubbles and a hoop with an ordinary world in it, like the clouds in the bubbles are different universes. The videos on this artwork would be interesting to see unfold just based on how many times I changed my mind.

Everyone probably agrees that there’s a rise in mental disorders alongside technology. Every now and then I meet someone who brandishes their diagnosis collection like medals, then go a step further and tell me what I am… Plot twist, I’m nothing, I’m a perfectly healthy young woman and that opinion needs to step right back to where it came from, it’s inappropriate behaviour. What I’ve understood so far… These people are using articles that show up on their first page of a, potentially bias, Google search which include phrases like “13 reasons you’re”. Or YouTube videos of someone who did that for them. These aren’t thousand page studies, or books written by psychologists but more and more people walk around as if that’s what they’re equipped with. I found one of these people particularly jarring when they had to be correct, so I questioned it and ended up with this artwork. I began painting this artwork as a man then it ended up being a woman because of paint logistics (check out the video on that one), but the concept overall was to paint books as eye lasers. As if the person who’s shooting out diagnosis’ is using their new found opinion as lasers out to get you. I painted the lasers as books since there’s no actual books going on here. If I were being socially confronted with someone who read studies I’d have taken a different approach and painted someone throwing books, so that’s where the laser books idea comes from, empty, like the weight of the opinions being thrown at me. Underneath I left the ground bare from grass since it really felt like these interactions needed to leave the person correct at all costs, no friendship will be left behind if they’re wrong, no life for anything new to grow. I also tried painting the head as a huge statue in the distance being held up by the tree, I’m not sure I hit the mark though. I have a pretty comprehensive portfolio of giraffe artworks but when I finished my ‘Doughsplosion’ artwork I decided I genuinely needs a giraffe version. I’m also quite sure that I came to that idea from the ‘Raffepopper’ artwork so it looks like I’m doing an idea spiral here. I also appreciate the coloured falling windows I put together in older artworks and wanted to include them in the explosion.

This is an artwork I thought up while colouring in a doughnut page in my colouring in book series and decided I want to make a doughnut with loads of tiny giraffe sprinkles. From there I wanted to create an artwork where some of the main object is cut out, like a mid shot. As I created the doughnut I wanted a new doughnut since I’ve used it so much and rendered up a new one then when importing it into Photoshop from Blender I couldn’t decide what colour to make it, then I ended up wanting to make it look electric, like my ‘Hippy Hippo’ artwork. This is the final result.
