In this artwork I play with psychology and gentrification. As I opened Saatchiart to upload one of my artworks another “artwork” caught my attention. This was priced at $20K+, so I clicked onto the artwork to see what majestic concept the “artist” aimed to channel. None. The listing literally said ‘décor’. I’m offended. So offended turned my offence into an artwork. ‘Simulation theory’ then kicks in and I happened to stumble across a massive canvas to repurpose for this concept. I decided to genuinely show off my talent in this piece although price it stupidly high on the online galleries and have no description, to give the impression it’s décor. I’m assuming the gallery will place it in a nice position since they’ll make a huge commission, I aim for the viewers to question the price. Leading them to see my other artworks and seeing a huge discrepancy. I wonder if the viewers will then look up my name and see this description on my own website to see I’m mocking the gentrification of décor artists and have a real description and appropriate price here (according to my level of fame). The game here is if someone ends up buying it direct, they win the game… If they go through a gallery without finding the true meaning of the artwork, I win the game. I risk being kicked off the online galleries with this artwork although that’s part of the statement I’m making. I tried painting this in 9 days although finished it in ten, because of the timeline I gave myself there’s definitely some tiny parts where I could have calculated the paint drying better so there are a few touch-ups which don’t reflect my aim to entirely show off my talent… The items in the artwork aren’t meant to have meaning however I definitely painted it with a story in mind, that’s just the way it worked out. Trauma

This artwork was created in early 2019, beneath it was an attempt at a different artwork of a woman but I rage quit and continued with this one. I call it trauma, titled before the word was over-used in everyday language by gen z, to describe peoples perseverance. When you pour paint on a plant it has no choice but to continue growing through it, so take that and apply it to your own hardships. This artwork may end up being my favourite forever and has had more cacti added to the collection but with different concepts. This cactus has become a symbol for my artworks as Magritte is to his apple. Flow State

I made an artwork which I still consider my best, ‘Trauma’, and haven’t been able to recreate one just as good but I think this one might be on par. Just with less effort visible in the paint since I did all the practice on that artwork. The cacti I paint are people, roughly. This time I wanted to paint flow state, it’s the state of mind where you’re absorbed in your task but in so deep you forget you’re doing it and work autonomously while your mind wanders. This is where I am when I paint, in the rabbit hole. I think it deserved an artwork. In the bottom right I added a cherry, for the ideas that randomly pop into mind when in flow state and the clouds focused on the cactus. Fall of Bulgaria

A while ago I decided to paint a personified history of Bulgaria, the man on the left is Krum, the Bulgarian who lead Bulgaria to take over most of Eastern Europe and the man on the right is the fall of Bulgaria representing the loss of land into nothing. Krum famously severed the head of his opponent and turned his skull into a cup. I painted the cup in gold (gold is better) and had the man watching the cup as he's being attacked as if he's more worried about the legacy and not his life. This is a challenge artwork that I left at my grandma’s. During a previous visit I’d painted my grandpa who’d passed away about 30 years ago today, for my grandma. However the tools I had at hand were tricky to use and it came out mediocre at best. Since then I’ve done quite a few art challenges like busking, art battles, 80 artworks in 79 days and so on so now I have a much better grip on creating artworks in situations that aren’t ideal and with terrible paint. This time I didn’t have my trusty water mixable oils which dry much faster than the denser oils and had to use thick oils. I ended up only having two weeks for this artwork after having found turpentine (which was impossible there!). The next challenge for this artwork was the brushes. I had about seven of the same size, one large and one tiny brush, so I made this artwork with just three brushes. Unfortunately it’s not for sale but it’s here to be apart of the collection of artworks I want to share with you.

I did the trek down to Garie beach in the Royal National Park, NSW and returned with a photo of the Figure Eight pool that I’m pretty proud of. So when the Wynne Prize, 2018 rolled around I decided to paint a recreation of the digital artwork, still coming to the realisation it’s quite a challenge to swap between types or art! There was an abandoned artwork beneath this one where the paint marks can still be seen on an angle. The previous artwork was about the plastic lifestyle of celebrities and showed Taylor Swift cling wrapped to the canvas. The artwork also shows a face if you look at the rock in the water from the side This artwork is il based, isn’t one of my hand-stretched ones and sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

Waiting on the Sunset, Steven

I'm against doing commissions however this one seemed a tad unique and I took it on, the end result doesn't look like this and I won't be showing the final result. That is exclusive to the owner and I'm very proud of the first version. The original request of this artwork were to re-create a small painting I'd made, 'Solid Choice', only larger. I changed this artwork up accordingly, this time keeping the sheet flat and having water holding it up. I included the spotty birds which feature in my artwork, 'Flock Party' to represent a rainbow which refers to a jargon term from an event in the owners life. I included a pear as my stamp on the artwork and Virgo the constellation as the man in the painting has an Irish/ Russian background which both share a Virgo rising sign. Since I've been looking at Bosch artworks lately I'm interested in adding detail in the artworks. There is morse code in this one.

Snacking & Daydreaming

I began this painting with an entirely different idea in mind, originally having the cow-pear in a therapy chair facing a picture that resembles a window with a tree branching in and the walls divided into indoors and outdoors. Instead I didn't vibe with the painting and decided to get creative with it. In the mornings I have breakfast on my balcony surrounded by trees and look up into the blue sky. So I decided to paint that. The fruit stuck on the wall is my breakfast, as if the cow-pear keeps it there, pulling one down to snack on it and it looks out into the blue where there are imaginary animals. I decided to paint the coloured elephants and giraffes from my digital artworks. At first I wanted to paint the elephant with the same long curly legs as the giraffe although I face an obstacle where people liken my artworks to Dali's so I needed to avoid elephants with long legs. Instead I stretched it's ears into and behind the water. I hid the giraffes face and originally intended to hide the elephants face (although it began to look creepy) with the idea that they share a head. The tape is different on each fruit because I wanted to reference the real life issue where tape always seems to be running out! I also decided it was important to brand the items in the paintings with barcode stickers of my own. Oil based, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity!

Charles Manson the Rock Star

While listening to a podcast the guest began playing a song which I then shazamed. I was surprised to learn that the artist was Charles Manson, but I do sit in the camp of separating the art from the artist so I decided to paint him as the rock star he never became. This was also my first artwork being documented in the form of a “How to” so each step was documented with incredible detail. I decided to paint an outfit as a mix of ideas from 80’s rock stars, the guitar and tattoo are odes to his cult and the expression is Bruce Springsteens. A guest recently visited and mentioned the expression makes her uncomfortable which is precisely how I wanted it to turn out. To have that Charles Manson crazy face look but also showing that expression Bruce showcases in the example photo. My first cactus artwork was a hit and people encouraged me to create more, of the same… After a while I learnt that people who aren’t artists have very bad marketing ideas, you reading this are no exception. But I gave it a go. The original artwork is a cactus with paint being poured on it, ‘Trauma’ and is pretty much just dealing with life. This is the prequel to it where the paint hasn’t landed yet. This is one of my 80 artworks and every now and then I decide to paint something I would have or couldn’t create through digital art. I use a few doughnuts in my digital artworks so following my ‘Watching the Boats Sail Past’ I still wanted to paint doughnuts. So I painted a woman craving doughnuts, looking into the mirror and seeing a doughnut back. Her dress is glaze and I decided to replace items around the place with doughnuts. This is one of the final artworks of both my twenty-one artworks in twenty-one days which then turned into eight artworks in eight hours so this was a time crunch. I wanted to recreate the concepts of ‘Doughnut Town’ and ‘Ice cream Town’ but with a snake and while reflecting on my previous artworks I noticed I hadn’t actually used this snake in it’s original size that I made for the ‘Spring Hood’ digital artwork. So this is the final result of those ideas mashed together.

A while back I visited the Art Gallery of NSW and there was an artwork, photography, where an aboriginal man duplicated himself at Parliament which showed how things would look if white people didn’t run the town here. I liked it on all aspects and that’s where the idea to replicate the lemur came from. I also recently cleaned it up and wanted to use the photo.

This is my second digital artwork using Affinity Photo and an attempt to live stream my dart making (which didn’t go as planned). Despite that the idea came from a previous artwork where I wanted to make zebra striped animals then ended up creating my Zeblephant.

Nuclear Window

I’ve joined the masses turning their backs on Adobe and this is my first digital artwork using Affinity Photo. This was mainly a learning curve and I’m not sure it’s my best concept but a good start to hopefully some great Affinity made artworks! I wanted to create an electric wall by using textures that I’d create in Photoshop like smudging and adjustment layer or placing a glow around it. I ended up making the vines glow and even created a much better lemur (in terms of fur) than I could have in Photoshop. The overall intention was to create a window where the clouds are actually doughnuts, so I tried to show that with some of them spanning across to the neighbouring window. I also added the albino giraffes referencing my painting, ‘The Game’, while the doughnuts reference my painting, ‘Cravings’.

After my previous digital artwork, ‘Coffee on the Table’, I wanted to continue the trend of a very realistic setting however I’ve also taken on quite a few projects at the moment and am short of new background photos. So I decided to use my trusty Royal National Park photo for this one. I challenged myself by using much less saturated colours than usual and editing the landscape just a little bit as well. In general I wanted to use my bicycle from ‘Messy Bicycle’ and put it into this new style. In the end I’m pretty pleased with it but want to try different tactics with a photo background I’ve taken. I also felt like throwing in the regular protagonists from my other artworks.

I’m in the mood to switch up my style just a little bit for a while. When I began manipulating photos they had a very realistic look as I didn’t change the background, I decided to return to that approach although with the idea in mind that I want to bring the cleaned up edited objects from my more recent artworks and merge the two styles.

I’ve been looking around my place imagining the objects that have been in my digital artworks so that’s where this idea came from, I also really enjoy my ‘Astrology Cup’ artwork so I worked from there.

Clouds in Bubbles

I didn’t start this artwork with a goal in mind but wanted to create a turtle version of my ‘Bicycle Bridge’ where a turtle is stuck between two somewhat cliff edges. The image of the turtle doesn’t really fill the page so I changed my mind to creating a curvy wave that’s blowing bubbles and have the turtles climb across it. That idea didn’t last long and I ended up with clouds inside some bubbles and a hoop with an ordinary world in it, like the clouds in the bubbles are different universes. The videos on this artwork would be interesting to see unfold just based on how many times I changed my mind.

I have a pretty comprehensive portfolio of giraffe artworks but when I finished my ‘Doughsplosion’ artwork I decided I genuinely needs a giraffe version. I’m also quite sure that I came to that idea from the ‘Raffepopper’ artwork so it looks like I’m doing an idea spiral here. I also appreciate the coloured falling windows I put together in older artworks and wanted to include them in the explosion.

Moon Boss

I decided to create this artwork during my 80 artworks challenge and in my surroundings sat my painting ‘Watching the Boats Sail Past’ which shows a bunch of boats which are doughnuts. I’ve tried plenty of times in the past to either paint a digital artwork or digitally create a painting and they never work out, the two genres are different. So here I am trying again! This ended up entirely different yet they both look good enough for me to feature though doughnut boats again. They still don’t cross over, I just now have two entirely different styles of doughbots, I’m not sure if this is the most successful attempt to cross over the genres either. The final artwork reminds me of a video game and the boss is a moon. Check out the art venture video of this one, there’s more documented on the making there.

Raining Laser Fruit

I wanted to create a car in a car while working on my 80 artworks project as something unique although now that some time has passed and I’m recording the artwork in my spreadsheet, this was probably a subconscious continuation from my ‘Road Trip’ artwork and a variation of ‘Car Stack’ from many years ago. Since I decided to create a night digital artwork it definitely turned out a tad different to what I expected!

This is an artwork I created during my 80 artworks and the idea came from two previous ideas. One being ‘Alpaca Wall’ and the other ‘Camouflage Partyraffant’. I’ve always appreciated the transparency of the wall in ‘Camouflage Partyraffant’ and tried to replicate it quite a few times. 

While creating the artwork I wanted to channel some dreamy vibes, the window’s calling.

Smokey Bird

This is one of my 80 artworks and when I began it I thought I’d quickly wrap the bird in leaves although that wasn’t quick and it didn’t look good (I recommend watching the time lapse for this one) I then changed my mind on what I wanted to create and at the time I thought the concept of turning the bird into half smoke would be too simple. After creating it I decided this artwork took a very good turn.

The impression that I have where the two don’t swap very well still stands as the painting is much more capturing than this version.

Alpaca Turn

This is one of the later of my 80 artworks and since I have my ‘Giraffe Turn’ artwork and ‘Elephant Turn’ it seemed fitting to add the alpaca to the series since realising I probably had a slightly larger photo than what I previously thought. I cleaned up the photo and whipped out this artwork in an hour.

Malk

This is a digital artwork from my 80 challenge and I wanted to incorporate the photo of a milk carton I had which I only used once in the other ‘Malk’ artwork. This time I cleaned up the photo so it didn’t look so generic and from there the artwork became different flavoured milk… I could have done blueberry and food flavours although as a surrealist I didn’t go that way. Here’s your milk.

Coffee With the Birds

I decided to create this artwork as cockatoos sometimes visit me and genuinely watch me colour in… I like to think they know they’re in some of my artworks. I tend to have a coffee when colouring in (I have a colouring in book series you should check out) so this artwork is coffee with the birds. Something I’m not doing intentionally is when I’m given instructions I tend to take the instructions as is but give it a creative twist. So if you wanted me to give you an image of coffee with birds, this is what you get.

Chessboard

Since creating my fluffy lego pieces I also wanted to merge that idea with a seperate idea to create a chessboard using the photos that I turned into statues for the artwork ‘Grabbing Art Supplies’. I came across a challenge in this artwork as with photo editing the angle of the photo is what you have to work with.

Elephant Bridge

This idea began to brew as I created the artwork prior which showcased a pear in the sky as a home, I wanted to create a home that was more front and center but also wanted to make a very surreal animal. So from there I merged the ideas of a door through an elephant. The artwork grew from there and this is the result.

Hungry Bird

During my 80 artworks challenge I made whatever came to mind, I began this with an entirely different idea (check out the video documentations) where I wanted to create a bird with leaves for feathers. Unfortunately with the style that I manipulate the photos to, the leaves looked too doctored and I couldn’t achieve the desired outcome. So I rage quit and made a bird version of a previous artwork, ‘Hungry Giraffe’ which is also the pixel test print I see every time I leave my home. Now it has a pair.

Prior to this artwork I photographed and used lego in my ‘Doughnut Town’, since then I decided to create lego in Blender and use it in an artwork. This giraffe has also been through a lot in my artworks and I came up with the idea of turning it’s spots into lego. As I created it I then decided to turn the environment into lego. If you’ve been through a lego phase as an adult I’m sure you vibe with this giraffe.

This is one of the 80 artworks and as I created it I had something slightly… entirely different in mind (rotating stages of giraffes from previous artworks) however someone at the time was talking to me about which one of my artworks they wanted, so I took a peek at my website which turned into a total rabbit hole and I ended up leaving an hour later and making this artwork.

Mosaic Door

This is one of the 80 artworks and before creating it I hunted down some ideas, I didn’t find any however an entirely unrelated video came up on my YouTube and the background of this lecture was a projection of a mosaic window. I thought it looked great and decided to tackle creating one in a digital artwork. It took a while to achieve this look, and a tricky venture for Photoshop! The doughnuts link from two other artworks, ‘Doughnut Town’ and ‘Ice Cream Town’.

Jar of Snakes

Before I created this I’d recently photographed a jar which I used in the previous artwork, ‘The Doughnut Jar’, and decided I’d love to see a jar filled with snakes. If you see the screen recording you’ll see I tried a few variations but ended up using a car as a lid as you see here. I also decided to include ideas from older artworks like ‘Stitching Ground’ to keep the lid on.

This is a digital artwork I created during the beginning of my October challenge and really wanted to utilise my new jar photo and also the theme I’d recently been following with using tiny objects (since my computer’s now upgraded and can handle my ideas). I also saw an artwork from the MCA of a red room and wanted to create a glass outdoor room after seeing this. While creating this a client rang and asked how I think of these ideas, so that’s what I named it.

Animal in the Window

This is an idea that came into mind when painting my painting, ‘Death of the Rock Piano’ where I looked at my digital artwork using a piano where I changed the colours and decided I should create another with zebra stripes, then since I already created a piece with a stripy giraffe I thought I’d include that and just turn it black and white. This didn’t look like zebra stripes so I ventured on to create stripes which resemble the actual pattern and this is the outcome.

Giraffes Channelling Spencer

This is a digital artwork I’d thought about making for a while. When I cut out the giraffes spots a few years back for another artwork I found the giraffe looked naked, like a human. I return to this giraffe for other artworks and when I change the spots into geometric looking spots I think the same. This artwork came to be while making another and just decided to split the file into two and pivot each artwork from that point. I ended up createing a crowd of naked giraffes as a nod to Spencer Tunick. I also worked on teach giraffe looking lik an individual.

This is a digital artwork I created based on two other previous artworks. The mini series began with creating a bird covered in the background pattern, which then evolved into and elephant and the bird. Then I had one more animal I can use, a giraffe. Only this time reshuffling the arrangement.

This is a digital artwork I created after an idea popped into mind where a moon was being carried through a hoop that I use in my digital artworks. I wasn't able to entirely capture what I'd been imagining so this is a tangent from that. The hoops in this artwork remind me of prawn crackers and that's how I titled it.
