I wanted to create a car in a car while working on my 80 artworks project as something unique although now that some time has passed and I’m recording the artwork in my spreadsheet, this was probably a subconscious continuation from my ‘Road Trip’ artwork and a variation of ‘Car Stack’ from many years ago. Since I decided to create a night digital artwork it definitely turned out a tad different to what I expected!

Alpaca's Calling

This is an artwork I created during my 80 artworks and the idea came from two previous ideas. One being ‘Alpaca Wall’ and the other ‘Camouflage Partyraffant’. I’ve always appreciated the transparency of the wall in ‘Camouflage Partyraffant’ and tried to replicate it quite a few times. 

While creating the artwork I wanted to channel some dreamy vibes, the window’s calling.

Smokey Bird

This is one of my 80 artworks and when I began it I thought I’d quickly wrap the bird in leaves although that wasn’t quick and it didn’t look good (I recommend watching the time lapse for this one) I then changed my mind on what I wanted to create and at the time I thought the concept of turning the bird into half smoke would be too simple. After creating it I decided this artwork took a very good turn.

Animal in the Window

After creating my recent digital artwork with cockatoos at the window (like the title) I wanted to take up the opportunity to use these new window’s I’ve created, this time with a more playful approach and show an animal outside although changing the animal as the windows spread across.

No Zebras Here

This is an idea that came into mind when painting my painting, ‘Death of the Rock Piano’ where I looked at my digital artwork using a piano where I changed the colours and decided I should create another with zebra stripes, then since I already created a piece with a stripy giraffe I thought I’d include that and just turn it black and white. This didn’t look like zebra stripes so I ventured on to create stripes which resemble the actual pattern and this is the outcome.

Chasing Prawn Crackers

This is a digital artwork I created after an idea popped into mind where a moon was being carried through a hoop that I use in my digital artworks. I wasn't able to entirely capture what I'd been imagining so this is a tangent from that. The hoops in this artwork remind me of prawn crackers and that's how I titled it.

I'm definitely a fan of throwing shade at décor and mass produced (that mimics a hand crafted artwork) art, décor art has made it incredibly difficult for artists to thrive in a modern society. So when I make an artwork that's décor, I'm actually mocking it and therefore not décor anymore. So here's my décor artwork of a fruit bowl.

Birdouflage

This is a digital artwork I created based on a painting (which was based on another digital artwork) I created a few years ago, it's the same but green and a bird this time. I decided to have the bird camouflaged.

Giraffe with Coffee

This is an artwork I thought up while creating the previous digital artwork where I’d use a tool in Photoshop to smudge the colours of all the layers and add saturation to create a 60’s style colour mess. Now that I’m using Affinity Photo I needed to recreate this but without the tool but figure out how to make the pixels do that myself. This was successful and that’s the pattern you see behind the zebra stripes. Alongside that I wanted to add a wild mane and coffee pouring in a really straight fashion. The artwork turned out very close to what I imagined, goal accomplished!

Collin

When creating this artwork I decided I wanted to make some thug birds. This is them. My friend has an inside joke where she calls all cockatoo’s ‘Collin’ following a story where she had a baby the same time as some resident cockatoos. Every time I hear the name though I think of a lad. So this title felt fitting.

Springpear

This is a continuation from my ‘Springhood’ artwork where I created a pear that’s a spring shape but also melts like icing. This time I wanted it to be the centrepiece and make it conceptual. While I created it I decided that it was such an interesting shape I wanted to hide it behind a bird. Playing with the idea that a bird really would get in the way of a view in real like, especially cockatoos, and adding to the mystery of what’s behind the bird.

Sweet Tooth

This is a digital artwork I decided to create without worrying about whether it were too outrageous for people to actually own, just a super sweet artwork. I created the idea based on my 'Beet Pop' artwork with zoo animals instead. I included coloured glass falling from the sky to add to the sweetness and a slightly more vibrant version of my pineapple hot air balloon from older digital artworks.

This is an artwork that came to mind when working on the previous one where I used a photo of my bicycle, only this time I felt like recreating the 'Spinraffe' artwork with cockatoos. I chose to keep the birds feathers simple as their photos have a lot going on in them anyway. I feel like this captures the general personality of cockatoos.

This is a digital artwork I created using a photograph I took of an old Volkswagen Beetle and decided to seperate the parts of it to create this. I also aimed to create a similar artwork to one I made a few years ago although don't believe this one measures up to my intentions.

Pegasus, Giraffe Style

This is a digital artwork I created from a selection of elements from previous digital artworks, the goal was to create a super tall giraffe and I ended up adding other animals into the hood. This reminds me of Greek Mythology.

Negro with Parrots and Monkeys Censored

This artwork is an appropriation of a 17th century Swedish leading artist David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl’s 1670 artwork ‘Negro with Parrots and Monkeys’. When I saw this artwork originally I really enjoyed the composition and expression used. However we live in a cancel culture where even in the most fitting situations we aren’t allowed to mention a growing vocabulary of words purely because someone else has repeatedly used them in a derogatory manner and therefore it’s assumed all uses of the word are derogatory. “The asian girl over there” for example, is now considered a racist comment instead of describing the person you’re referring to. I feel as if I’m not allowed to tell anyone about the original artwork, it’s now considered racist despite portraying the opposite of how we now associate the word, negro. By appropriating this artwork I’m giving the original artwork a new platform to be seen, we shouldn’t shun art history out of fear of using a word in the most appropriate context and being cancelled. I could have named it “I’m not allowed to title this artwork” but I don’t believe that would have reflected the original enough or even conveyed the point I’m making. I have two other appropriations and they’re each titled referencing the originals. I did think about just appropriating the artwork into my own style, surrealist and bold colours although after starting I changed my mind and tried to ring true to the thin and many layers artists of the time would have used. Putting censor bars and staying true to the style seemed more appropriate to my goal. The approach to thinly layering paint didn’t sit well with me and I ended up stopping this to paint a massive artwork in my own style. Toward the end of this artwork I ended up rage quitting because I felt like it took too long. Had I isolated more time in the first week of this artwork then I would have stayed interested in keeping it realistic. I wasn’t able to perfectly match the perspective. This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

I find this artwork quite funny. In 2017 I went to Newport beach with a fiend and saw a cockatoo eating a chip above me. So I photographed it and turned it into a cigarette then reflected it, as if you’re in That 70’s Show. This bird makes a comeback in other artworks such as ‘Party Bird’.
