This is an artwork I decided to paint when something didn’t go as planned so I sat on the balcony with my coffee contemplating it. Then I thought about all the times I’ve sat there with my coffee thinking something through. So that’s the birth of this concept, all the coffee’s you’ve had just sitting around thinking deeply. I also wanted to show movement and a little chaos around the subject and feel like I achieved it with this one. I decided to paint this artwork just because I want you, the person reading this right now, to know that during the Cold War the CIA decided to strap cameras on pigeons to spy. I found this hilarious and wanted you to know about it too. The main reason I found it hilarious is as an avid DIY-er I’ve had more than enough things turn out wobbly, and this is exactly how this project turned out, a bit wobbly. The footage wasn’t ideal. As a surrealist I needed to paint this artwork in a surreal manner, plus that’s far more interesting than just human-printing out a photo you can look up. I wanted them to appear a bit strange, the way you’d feel if one landed near you. As I you’re being watched. So I added a chromatic effect and leads to the hands that are watching you. I also wanted to embody the kind of background I’d create in my digital artworks, a clear reflection as if they’re on glass and tried to use green as the sky, like my ‘Surrealists and Psychology’ artwork. This artwork is an appropriation of a 17th century Swedish leading artist David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl’s 1670 artwork ‘Negro with Parrots and Monkeys’. When I saw this artwork originally I really enjoyed the composition and expression used. However we live in a cancel culture where even in the most fitting situations we aren’t allowed to mention a growing vocabulary of words purely because someone else has repeatedly used them in a derogatory manner and therefore it’s assumed all uses of the word are derogatory. “The asian girl over there” for example, is now considered a racist comment instead of describing the person you’re referring to. I feel as if I’m not allowed to tell anyone about the original artwork, it’s now considered racist despite portraying the opposite of how we now associate the word, negro. By appropriating this artwork I’m giving the original artwork a new platform to be seen, we shouldn’t shun art history out of fear of using a word in the most appropriate context and being cancelled. I could have named it “I’m not allowed to title this artwork” but I don’t believe that would have reflected the original enough or even conveyed the point I’m making. I have two other appropriations and they’re each titled referencing the originals. I did think about just appropriating the artwork into my own style, surrealist and bold colours although after starting I changed my mind and tried to ring true to the thin and many layers artists of the time would have used. Putting censor bars and staying true to the style seemed more appropriate to my goal. The approach to thinly layering paint didn’t sit well with me and I ended up stopping this to paint a massive artwork in my own style. Toward the end of this artwork I ended up rage quitting because I felt like it took too long. Had I isolated more time in the first week of this artwork then I would have stayed interested in keeping it realistic. I wasn’t able to perfectly match the perspective. This is an artwork I wanted to paint having recently seen a much older artwork ‘Personality’ and wanted to create a new one with the same spots. From there I painted a window and felt like painting someone on the other side looking in. On the inside I continued a very unexpected scene with the bird and light from the spots. While painting it I wanted to paint the idea of peeking into someone else’s thoughts or point of view, only after I finished the artwork I managed to put the idea together verbally and this isn’t my artwork on conspiracy theories (one on the way) but I’ve decided to look into many conspiracy theories as I find them interesting. So it’s peering into another world that exists alongside yours but it may be unsettlingly different. Sometimes I find myself hanging around people who are very preoccupied with whatever event they’re planning or mediocre activities like who they’re dating and it’s hard to maintain an actual conversation that would still be relevant in years time, like how video games improve hand eye coordination, or the pyramids. I remember talking to someone and when I brought up something less surface level she’d say “mhmm” and not add to the thought. It’s hard to find like-minded people so I painted a thinking statue, between two surfaces, I like to see it that one is filled with the faces of people who do the 9-5 and their conversations don’t extend much further than their work dramas, very important to them, but still surface level. Then on the roof it’s another perspective where there’s people who think they’re entirely different to the ones following life’s expectations but still aren’t digging deep, the topics of conversation still revolve around why this isn’t happening or that doesn’t work. I’m minding my own business a lot of the time. This guy who wasn’t felt like stirring the pot so I made an artwork with the following thought. My Bumble account clearly displays that I’m interested in astrology, it eloquently counteracts the motorbike so the guys interested for the wrong reasons tend to be scared off by the astrology. A guy one day thought he’d take that into account and begin arguing at me… At. He sent photos intended to offend any religion but he didn’t understand that astrology isn’t a religion. So it felt like arguing with an idiot since he had no idea what he was so against, repeatedly emphasising he’s an atheist. After that I really wondered, why are these atheists so insistent on converting people with beliefs, they’re trying to use reason but faith isn’t based on reason… It’s purely belief so you can’t argue with science. The thought then continues to where you see this artwork, people who truely believe in something have a sense of everything being fine, and just a bit rocky on the way. I feel like I can blindly follow my gut knowing my career will work out because I believe the universe has my back. So how are these people living their lives if they don’t have any faith that they’re here for a reason. I painted a brick path leading into a ditch, behind it a rose coloured glass wall where the people who do believe make the leap and land. Tear drops are scattered everywhere around the landscape, the universe is crying. I also believe that it’s important to be kind since we’re a communal species and literally work together to continue living. If someone’s going around mindlessly attacking others, intending to shatter their sense of purpose the world is affected through a chain reaction. So this is the atheists making the universe cry. I was listening to a video about Magritte one day and the narrator dropped the comment that surrealists tend to be interested in psychology. I agree with that, I’m a surrealist and I find it fascinating how people act, not in a pop-psychology-internet-article kind of way, in a way that I’ll borrow books that are referenced in uni degree’s and understand you can’t just go around diagnosing people. Time is limited for this activity though. A few years back, around 26, I learnt that creativity is the brain making connections between parts of the brain. Where other people who aren’t creative don’t make those connections. Until I learnt that I genuinely believed people were being lazy when they’d say things like “How do you think of that?”… In my mind, you just stop and think for two seconds, get a grip. Then I continued on and learnt about synesthesia and have a personal theory that’s just intense creativity. All very interesting. Then that comes to the art, just an extension of how I think and representative of how I see things. So here I painted my thoughts and ideas falling through the roof of my mind and entering the real world. The items that represent my ideas then begin to die, “How high are you?”, “It’s so abstract!”. There’s also a reference to a digital artwork I created. Some hands reach out wanting to share the ideas. People don’t tend to look at the artwork and guess what I’m conveying with it, of coarse! That would be quite a party trick, like reading my mind. But the wonderful thing about art is that everyone sees something individual in each artwork and they personalise it. It becomes a lovely plot twist that the artworks enter the real world to die, then rebirth in a new way for each individual. I find it so interesting that people break down historic artists artworks and label what they were thinking, without descriptions you just don’t know… Bosch. I think by this point in time we’ve come across someone who’s big on over-correcting and being over-cautious to the point where all they do is sit still and watch mainstream media then spiral into the panic that they’ve set up for the week. Life really isn’t anywhere near as dangerous as people expect, it’s pretty mediocre. I recently had to purchase $20 million insurance to sell my colouring books at the local park, then so did everyone else which added up to $840 million cover. That’s overkill. I Brought this up with a few people and some saw how ridiculous it was, others began thinking about the worst case scenario and expected it to play out, they wanted me to believe that were a possibility. As if Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos is hanging around the park and they die, at my expense. This is their safety zone, don’t exit the safety zone, you will die. Don’t live your life, you will die. This is an artwork I created in the final week of my 80 artworks and during the whole event I’d turned off my notifications, the radio and pretty much any outside world distractions. This was an enjoyable activity and when it ended I told people “I’ve resurfaced from the rabbit hole”. I had no clue what’s been going on in the real world. At the end when I made this I had a feeling I’d been living in a different world to everyone else. So here’s the rabbit hole, the rabbits never end. This artwork is one of my 80 in 79 days and I decided to paint the feeling of a night walk. However this turned out very different to the idea I had in mind which included a building. I painted the rain as sheets of water hanging off the clouds alongside another artwork I painted that week, evaporating from the river. Including the water for that feeling of a cold breeze and boats sailing along the sand like the quiet, out of place vibe. This artwork is a slight continuation from last week and a mix of another artwork I created a while back which I enjoy, ‘Midnight Snack’. There’s something I haven’t been able to recreate about that artwork yet so I gave it another go with this artwork (not quite there yet). I’m really into my crepes, I think I’ve got them down. Each day at brunch I have a lovely snack with crepes admiring how the plants have grown over the past day. I have them with a coffee, ham and creamed honey and used to have a swarm of bees visit (hoping to staunch some honey). This is a painting I decided to paint out of disappointment I never received any roses from a failed relationship. Although I didn’t want to just paint a bouquet of flowers, like some “décor artist”. I began with the hand reaching out and the flowers drifting off in the wind. As I painted it I did receive a gesture although it felt empty, a compensation for communication which to me, entirely exhausted my efforts, so I then began to paint the leaves closest to the hand turning into drops of blood. I did have plans to turn the leaves floating away as transparent but I grew bored of the artwork and wrapped it up there. I also have more work to do in painting flowers. This is an artwork I decided to create after wondering about fortune tellers and how they end up becoming one. I knew a woman who seemingly decided to become one one day, she wasn’t the most honest person so I genuinely questioned her motives. Others have their own paths, so I painted a fortune teller at an empty fair in her hut. Behind her the hut continues to stretch into the blurry distance, underneath I painted symbols of life events that could have led her to this career, they can be interpreted as the viewer wishes, although I wanted to include items that symbolise religion, time, spirits, threats, money and so on. My 2022 new years resolution had been to counteract my contribution to landfill by saving items being thrown out that could be recycled at the recycling center, scrap metal or weren’t rubbish and could be sold. I ended up defeating my net zero landfill goal and saving carloads more than I threw out, and as a result it really brings me down to see piles of landfill contributions that could have been avoided with minimal effort. As I continued to see piles of “trash” I wondered what the difference is between throwing something out into landfill and digging up a hole and burying in your backyard. I can only think of one difference, convenience. If you didn’t have the option to bury your unwanted items elsewhere, would you put more effort into disposing of them properly, would this have a chain reaction on the consumer culture? I painted a fence for this, one side is your backyard and the other is the countries backyard. I painted items which don’t belong in landfill emerging from gaps in the land. Some items even with tags, just like real life. I also included dead leaves and the hole where the items fall in and out of as a wormhole. This probably wont be my final artwork on landfill, having already made on on how canvas prints contribute, although this is the one I’ve made for now. This is an artwork I decided to paint after the thought crossed my mind that no one actually owns anything, if you have a pet bird the only reasons you believe you own it is because you either formed a bond or it’s stuck in a cage. The same principle could be applied to other humans, if you’re in any type of relationship with someone you can’t claim you own them because society has labelled that action as anti-social. You don’t own anyone, you’ve formed a bond to keep them around or they’re being held hostage. On that idea I painted a bird carrying a pear with a barcode print on them. The concept of not actually owning anything seems harder to grasp with inanimate objects such as a pear, you don’t own a pear either, you tell people it’s yours and out of respect, inconvenience or fear they don’t take it from you. This is a painting I decided to paint in reference to two other artworks, ‘Midnight Snack’ and ‘Dreaming of Tidal Waves’. I enjoy painting in that style and felt like painting a dark artwork having ventured into difference styles recently. I intended on painting some form of dreaming and as I tried to paint through sleep (I’d been creating ten artworks that week) I repeatedly woke from mini-almost naps with new ideas for this artwork. Unfortunately I didn’t allow myself enough time to include all the ideas (they’re included in my YouTube artventure video though) although I do believe I managed to reach an entry level representation of waking up. I painted the clear sheet of water as the feeling of moving from sleep to wake and the deep thick, non-transparent water as the sleep. I originally planned to include my pineapple hot air balloon from other artworks although that didn’t work out so I lead the rope to nowhere. After some indecision with the concept on this artwork I’d watched a Tom Cruise interview being analysed and the journalist brought up confirmation bias; going into your research on a topic only to confirm your opinion. So I decided to play with this idea. You may look at this artwork and see the floating circles creating a large cylinder shape, or you might see them as a flat mesh of circles pivoting on their own axis, you might even decide that they aren’t circles and some are ellipses. The next decision the viewer would make is to look for other elements in the artwork to give confirm whichever opinion they’ve set on. I haven’t included any hints to which is what, so, to mimic anyones real life research to confirm their bias on anything it’s up to you to see what’s not intentionally there to confirm what you see and the environment is the same for everyone. This oil painting came to mind while finishing off the previous artwork where I painted in some tape. I then decided to paint an object with multiple clear items on top. This then turned into painting make-up brushes and making a thought piece on makeup. Are we using makeup to become the standard, or in some cases the choice of makeup could show exactly what they're trying to hide. This artwork is out of my element, using less contrast as I normally would and pastel colours while also challenging myself to paint transparency over transparency. While painting a previous painting Michael Jackson came on the radio and with the general “politically correct” vibe of western societies right now an idea came to mind to paint a spiky lake that would feel very uncomfortable to swim in. I don't believe it's politically correct to go around correcting people who've been brought up in a way that their language isn't used in an offensive manner. I painted the lake as it is because it feels like people are silenced very quickly, the swim is too spiky. I also painted the fence around it because there's no standing up for yourself with these people and I attached moons to the fence because in astrology the moon represents emotions. Everyday I eat pancakes and in general pretty much drink honey. One day the light hit the honey jar and decided to paint it. Since I pretty much drink it I decided to paint the honey in a fluid manner taking over the fruit around it. I watch videos on geography sometimes and came across one in detail on the international date line... Long story short, I start questioning the theory of time and the international date line. Without this line that's entirely made up then our rules for time don't work, to me it seems purely for convinience and the idea of time needs some more thinking over. I decided to paint how I felt about this idea of time, my head twisting between lands and trying to bridge the gaps that don't match up for me. This is a painting I created where I have bubbles sitting on a landscape with sheets of water (like some of my previous paintings) resting on them. It reminded me of day-dreams, in this painting and once soon to follow I use bubbles to represent dreams/ the mind. This painting is a bunch of tall poppies, from the saying “tall poppy syndrome” where, commonly in Australia (I hear) the most talented and high achievers are somewhat shamed for expressing or not denying their skill, so they cut the tall poppies down to size. I started making it thinking that with all the social media giving false promises of fame everyone seems to be a “tall poppy” without showing the skill or talent that could make them special (from what I see in gen Z). I felt like making another fruit bowl painting although with a cow hide skin instead of fruit skin, I thought about having one fruit cut open although that idea's probably going to be for a sequel painting. I call it vegan, I'm not the biggest fan of vegan diets so I guess this is my expression that there's no substitute for meat. Can be taken lightly as a metaphor for tofu and how vegans transform it into all the flavours. In the concept of this artwork I took the saying of things turning “pear shaped” literally. My intention is for the pears to express how the journey of each small progress in my career goes pear shaped so often, but each obstacle in each of those tiny goals is a learning curve that I needed. So I pelt the pears at the ladder. The painting was then followed up by a sequel, they're sold together. The sequel is the ladder being dinged around by the pears and the climb continues. Sometimes you follow advice from people who aren’t artists and have no idea what they’re advising but they’re older than you so you give it a go. I’ve learnt my lesson. The advice? “Paint it again it was so good!, Make more.” I’m not a decor artist and that’s what’s great about a painting, you don’t do it again. I took the advice and twisted it a bit however that stripped the artwork of its concept. You’ll see a few where I painted close ups. I wanted them to be a set with the original, ‘Trauma’ but that doesn’t really stand up in reality. Someone buys the artwork because they want that, if they were into decor art they wouldn’t be buying my artwork. So this one and the other close up didn’t follow the main man but I wanted to try and show that there could be a whole new world in the artwork if you’d zoomed in. Kind of like those vector artwork videos where people start off with a scene then create one around t and so on then record the zoom out for the clicks. This artwork is a wall of cactus spikes which looks out to an ocean, I named it boundaries because sometimes people get in their own way. It’s easy to set your standard to high and never achieve them for the sake of proving yourself right that you couldn’t achieve the goal. It’s interesting how people do this. Before this artwork I created one underneath it, then rage quit and painted this one. My previous artwork was a woman sailing away from an island and I called it ‘Leaving’ because I realised I’d grown differently to my friends and didn’t fit in anymore. Instead, I didn’t like it and kept the mountain then split it and called it ‘Focus’ because I’m super focused on realising my goals as an artist. Still working on it!

This artwork was inspired by a photo I took then manipulated in photoshop as my digital art process. I recreated the image as a painting although with a surreal twist where the tree is side-ways. I call it "Life" because it represents life and the unpredictability of it. The original digital image was also used at my uncles funeral with inspired the new take. This artwork is one of my best represented artworks in my original colouring in book, just sharing that you can make an amazing artwork yourself with this one! It’s an artwork I still look back at and think, “I really hit the mark with this”. Birds are meant to represent freedom and money is meant to unlock freedom. But how much have you sold your soul for corporate life? I tell my friends that as an artist, yes my income is currently lower (until one day), but I’m just as wealthy as the next because I’m spending my time doing what I love. Whereas when you work in a place you don’t enjoy, you only have about 2 hours each day as actual leisure, then the weekends, sometimes filled with chores (unless you have robots). So naturally, you spend whatever money you have on compensating. So there you go, there’s your freedom dampened by the man. This is a painting of Biggie Smalls (notorious B.I.G.) I created during a series of paintings including Snoop Dogg and Tupac where I fell into the rabbit hole of watching documentaries of their challenges building their careers and the black community. Unfortunately this artwork has gone missing! So I guess it’ll be one of those that resurfaces when my career takes off. It was safely hanging in a dentists office as advertisement to buy and it’s home should the artwork sell through one of my channels and the office changed ownership and now it’s gone. Before painting this artwork, I created a digital artwork just like this and enjoyed putting lightning in my artworks, so I decided to see how it works out with paint. It’s a challenge that ended up being a long-standing challenge and I’m not sure the two art forms will ever meet in the middle. You’ll see I try this challenge many times over the years.
