My first cactus artwork was a hit and people encouraged me to create more, of the same… After a while I learnt that people who aren’t artists have very bad marketing ideas, you reading this are no exception. But I gave it a go. The original artwork is a cactus with paint being poured on it, ‘Trauma’ and is pretty much just dealing with life. This is the prequel to it where the paint hasn’t landed yet. I don’t have words in my artworks so that’s what’s going on with the label. People need to interpret art, not be told what’s going on in it. Special Edition

This artwork was created as part of the mini series with cactuses. The cactus is skin coloured and the paint pouring from the sky now turns into flowers as it lands on the cactus. I call it “Special Edition” because, based on the idea that the other painting, Trauma, was based on living through situations, this is the variation where the subject thrives in the environment and turns the paint to flowers, metaphorically turning a bad situation to a wonderful one, they're the special edition. First Impressions

You never know what’s going on in someone’s life when you meet them. We also live in a culture where online presence plays a big factor in keeping up with the Joneses. I wanted to paint the idea that in many cases someones putting up an image of squeaky clean perfect duck and underneath the water is actually a bunch of brown feathers frantically paddling away keeping things together. This artwork is a close friends favourite, it really resonates with her and she ended up snapping it up. She would always look at it and cross her fingers it ended up in her home and it eventually did! Money Tree

This artwork is representative of how people spend their money, I find that majority of people my age (I was roughly mid-20’s, millennial) use loans as their savings account instead of actually saving, their money tree would be a tap straight down into the ground and this is how I wanted to paint that. This artwork was inspired by the way media interprets stories and collectively promote one end when in real life there are always many sides to the story. The artwork is a 90's television with the colour bars pouring into the ocean (into the real world) and two alternate perspectives. This one is an alternate universe where the cactus has the ability to dodge the event that was fated to happen, kind of similar to when people do everything to to and avoid an event that makes them learn something the hard way. This artwork is a wall of cactus spikes which looks out to an ocean, I named it boundaries because sometimes people get in their own way. It’s easy to set your standard to high and never achieve them for the sake of proving yourself right that you couldn’t achieve the goal. It’s interesting how people do this. Have you ever met that person who has an ego so big they get in their own way? They’re so good that they can’t possible have x, y, z because it’ll bring them down, ironically not realising that not doing x, y, z brings them down. This is that, your big ego so big it hits the roof and starts melting. This artwork was just a fun one I did based on how interesting I find it that a box of paints has made so many different paintings, separating, organising and mixing colours to make something people recognise is interesting to me. Sometimes you follow advice from people who aren’t artists and have no idea what they’re advising but they’re older than you so you give it a go. I’ve learnt my lesson. The advice? “Paint it again it was so good!, Make more.” I’m not a decor artist and that’s what’s great about a painting, you don’t do it again. I took the advice and twisted it a bit however that stripped the artwork of its concept. You’ll see a few where I painted close ups. I wanted them to be a set with the original, ‘Trauma’ but that doesn’t really stand up in reality. Someone buys the artwork because they want that, if they were into decor art they wouldn’t be buying my artwork. So this one and the other close up didn’t follow the main man but I wanted to try and show that there could be a whole new world in the artwork if you’d zoomed in. Kind of like those vector artwork videos where people start off with a scene then create one around t and so on then record the zoom out for the clicks. The Package

This is a painting of a package floating over a hole in the ground, in the desert. I created this small painting to represent hopes and fears, when people have a physical package unexpectedly arrive at their home, people tend to be excited and expect good things. Ironically humans tend to fear the future and what's in store for them.. the unknown bothers people. I'm bouncing off the idea that the unknown future is a package in the form of time and experiences that was specially sent for the individual, but they didn’t order it and don’t know if it’s a good idea to open it.
