This is one of my twenty-one artworks in twenty-one days. A while back I visited the Art Gallery of NSW and there was an artwork, photography, where an aboriginal man duplicated himself at Parliament which showed how things would look if white people didn’t run the town here. I liked it on all aspects and that’s where the idea to replicate the lemur came from. I also recently cleaned it up and wanted to use the photo.

This painting is of a hammer floating in shallow waters while clouds steam from it's head. I thought I'd play with the idea that power isn't a real thing, individuals can feel powerful and act accordingly although only when they're surrounded with sheep-like personalities, the buoyancy of the water. Not necessarily a fact when it comes to the reality of placing a hammer in water. I’ve also thought about the idea that when you’re really patient with someone they may perceive it as being a push over and feel they’re superior, but really it’s just perspective… They’re just a floating hammer. When deciding what to create with my next digital artwork I decided I wanted to create a mini scene in the kitchen with what I had. There’s also an inside joke here, “malk” for those who knew Julian Smith around 2010. It reminds me of sleeping beauty just a bit, I also specifically added the eggs on the clouds as I was going for something there.

In the concept of this artwork I took the saying of things turning “pear shaped” literally. My intention is for the pears to express how the journey of each small progress in my career goes pear shaped so often, but each obstacle in each of those tiny goals is a learning curve that I needed. So I pelt the pears at the ladder. The painting was then followed up by a sequel, they're sold together. The sequel is the ladder being dinged around by the pears and the climb continues. This is a painting I thought of while listening to the song 'White Flag' by Dido. The main part of the painting is a sunken sail which takes the shape of a white flag not catching wind, I made it to represent a fallen relationship while the other boats sail in the clouds. Turned out to be a pretty grim painting although it doesn't seem to reflect my perception at the moment, I think it’s pretty nice. This is one of my earlier giraffe artworks and I wanted to include both giraffe photos I have. I also wanted to play with the idea of giraffe height so I created a pool in the sky and then visiting it. When I completed it I couldn’t decide on a colour scheme being day or dusk so I just made Both available.

Every time I look up this artwork in my files I never find it. Past me titled this artwork “Couch Hole”. I hope that sheds some light on the transformation this artwork went through then eventually landed here. I remember somewhat wanting to pop my couch in the ocean, then from there that lead into making a geometric hole in the ocean, then I guess it didn’t look right and here we are. I think this one is much more coherent, considering my artworks are surreal in general.

I wanted an artwork with an umbrella floating around. I guess a Merry Poppins kind of idea. I struggle with my digital artworks at night though and this is one of those that I look back at and wonder if I hit the mark. However art is subjective! I ran a kickstarter to launch my colouring in books and gave people the option to choose which digital artwork they wanted printed and this was one woman’s choice. It’s really fascinating to me to see the artworks people choose! I guess it did hit the mark for some.

In 2016 I adventured to Garie Beach to hunt down the Figure Eight Pool. The actual attraction is the scenery for the entire walk now that I’ve been there and can report back to you. Right after a girl tried to stand as a bridge over the pool she fell is, promptly jumped out (winter) and I got my money shot of the pool with no one in it.

This is an artwork I created in 2017 based on my artwork ‘Elephant’ and then smudged it in Photoshop hoping to make a digital artwork, then rage quit and painted it instead because the styles don’t cross over. Great outcome though because it turns out everyone else see’s this as a bird. It took me a few years to see the bird and it becomes a great discussion topic showing people the elephant. Later on I then looked back at this artwork and went down a rabbit hole of illusions. It became a finalist for the Royal Art Society, Youth Prize in North Sydney. This artwork is was originally acrylic then I painted it again with oil once I found water mixable oils. It isn’t one of my hand-stretched ones and sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

I did the trek down to Garie beach in the Royal National Park, NSW and returned with a photo of the Figure Eight pool that I’m pretty proud of. So when the Wynne Prize, 2018 rolled around I decided to paint a recreation of the digital artwork, still coming to the realisation it’s quite a challenge to swap between types or art! There was an abandoned artwork beneath this one where the paint marks can still be seen on an angle. The previous artwork was about the plastic lifestyle of celebrities and showed Taylor Swift cling wrapped to the canvas.
