This is one of my 80 artworks and every now and then I decide to paint something I would have or couldn’t create through digital art. I use a few doughnuts in my digital artworks so following my ‘Watching the Boats Sail Past’ I still wanted to paint doughnuts. So I painted a woman craving doughnuts, looking into the mirror and seeing a doughnut back. Her dress is glaze and I decided to replace items around the place with doughnuts. This is a digital artwork I’d thought about making for a while. When I cut out the giraffes spots a few years back for another artwork I found the giraffe looked naked, like a human. I return to this giraffe for other artworks and when I change the spots into geometric looking spots I think the same. This artwork came to be while making another and just decided to split the file into two and pivot each artwork from that point. I ended up createing a crowd of naked giraffes as a nod to Spencer Tunick. I also worked on teach giraffe looking lik an individual.

I made this artwork frm a giraffe I've photographed and some other photo's I took. I wanted to create a giraffe that was misssing it's head and replaced with smoke (you can see in the recording) although my last giraffe edit was received as a bit morbid so I ditched the idea.

I really enjoyed this artwork! I must have been rephotographing my paintings and had quite a few out. So I decided that I wanted to create a digital artworks out of them and popped them in. I then used my favourite style of road shot, a front on shot and wanted it floating above the ground alongside that new cactus photo I’d taken. This is the result and I ended up painting this artwork as a challenge to see how I’d create it using paint.

This is an artwork I thought up while creating the previous digital artwork where I’d use a tool in Photoshop to smudge the colours of all the layers and add saturation to create a 60’s style colour mess. Now that I’m using Affinity Photo I needed to recreate this but without the tool but figure out how to make the pixels do that myself. This was successful and that’s the pattern you see behind the zebra stripes. Alongside that I wanted to add a wild mane and coffee pouring in a really straight fashion. The artwork turned out very close to what I imagined, goal accomplished!

I decided to paint a self portrait since I happen to be whipping them out every few years, this time I didn't paint it as a mid-shot front on artwork but a reflection of how I've spent my 20's. Painting until I drop at the easel. Painting the look of gold (without using gold) is a challenge I've been working on lately and my home is gold themed so I tackled that in this painting as well, turning the furniture gold. I still don't think I've figured it out so I guess it's also a reflection of how much progress I'd made with gold by this age. This is one of the later artworks during my 80 artworks project and intentionally simple. I thought about how every generation is so different yet we all go through the same stages and one day I won’t know how to use the modern technology (that probably wont happen judging my grandma though, maybe something else). We’re all the same, so I wanted to paint a row of armchairs sliding across a hallway down toward a window all watching the same sight. Sometimes when I'm painting I have a bit of a rest next to the easel as a mini break, before I painted this artwork I took one of those breaks and as I looked at the ceiling wondered when my career will take off. So I started painting the painting as if the face is emerging from the ground and when I flipped it to add detail I changed my mind and decided it would be better as the roof, as if someone's looking down, watching back. I painted the ladder hanging from the roof as if it's painting the face which is watching. Painting the career I'm hunting for. No Women Geniuses

I read a book shortly before painting this painting, ‘Genius, The Natural History of creativity by Hans Eysenck’ and on page 127 I read this line; “Genius is only found in males (for whatever reason!). Illustrations abound. In the list of geniuses studied by Cox, (1926) there are no women.” Let’s take note of the somewhat surprise from Eysenck as if he alludes to the reason actually being gender. So I’ll take a moment to elaborate the times. Women only won women’s rights in the 60’s and I doubt it was an easy road after that, sexism is still evident deep within culture so I don’t see women in the 60’s suddenly being accepted into jobs automatically without prejudice. The book itself points out that the definition of genius requires eminence in the field of your career. Women weren’t allowed careers so there you go, mystery solved. Even though another 60 years has passed we need to take into account that’s just your grandmother, or mothers generation who fought for equal rights and I bet there were some too busy raising young children to take it seriously. So you have your generation to be the first without prejudice in obtaining a job and on your way to the definition of genius. I personally argue it’s not a fresh start as in male dominated careers women report others having the opinion they won the job just please the stats and don’t receive the same respect amongst colleagues. As I read on it seemed as if the women who were eminent such as Marie Curie or Emily Dickinson must have just been considered very good. So the prejudice doesn’t just lie in not being able to find avenues to become eminent, but then being recognised as eminent. Following that thought I decided to whip out a female Einstein. She wears his jacket and the buttons lie the way a woman’s jacket does. That subtitle on page 127 named “Gender”, seems to have a misprint as I read “Prejudice in gender”. Where are the Babies?

I think history will look back on COVID the way it looks back on the Holocaust, with a union on governments as opposed to Hitler running the show (and remember, there was propaganda from the time too). I wasn’t against the vaccines but I was hesitant and definitely put it off with the sole reason being that it couldn’t possibly have been tested on childbearing aged women and the offspring. The Zika virus is what came to mind. However when I specifically asked how it could affect reproduction I was told it’s safe. Later on I watched ‘Died Suddenly’ the documentary on the actual clots humans are getting and in it showed that Australian birth rates plummeted shortly after we were campaigned to get the shots. I then decided to look it up myself and it was true, it’s now late 2023 and ABS website still hadn’t declared still births and the birth rates dropped. The website specifically said they’re restructuring how to present the data, and if you know stats then you know that stats are the easiest way to factually present false data. I felt personally betrayed on this one. So I decided to make a painting on something I don’t think we’ll really noticed until the statistic dip reaches an age where they were to begin interacting with society. In my artworks I use cacti to represent people so the trend continues here, however I chose blue because I wanted to make them like water, but also a night before a friend of mine died I had a dream that he went around saying bye to everyone and he had this incredibly bright blue tie on. So that’s where the death blue comes from. Half way through painting I decided it’s better to blind fold the baby. This ones for the babies that didn’t make it. This painting is a sequel to my painting 'Priorities' which is a pineapple pyramid (sold). The original idea came from the Pharaohs pyramids crossed with witnessing how people around me would spend money on unhealthy items for instant gratification then sulk about the repercussions.. rinse and repeat. So instead of making a painting of a pyramid symbolising the possessions and status I painted a cubist fruit to represent investing in your heath as opposed to things that don't actually contribute to your life in a positive way. In this painting I painted strawberry print for the first time and also included flamingos with peacock tails (the ultimate show-off bird), The strawberries leaves become wings or vice versa and this painting is one where I experimented with depth by blurring the background. This is a painting I made as a sentiment to my future goals, when I'm 63 (Feb) I aim to have finished 2k paintings, so the wall is covered in shadows from previously hanging paintings along with empty boxes which show the hopeful sales of my colouring book series (check it out btw).and the waterfall is what feels like an endless stream of ideas. This painting is a pineapple growing from the ground (like a carrot) taking the shape of a Pyramid, like the ones in Egypt. I thought of the idea that Pharoahs would bury their possesions with them and then created a visual metaphor for the lack of priorities today. I'm noticing that people would rather spend their money on having an unhealthy desert or an experience without considering how putting the money to something less self-sabotaging could make them just as happy. Building their own pyramid of treasures, not fruit. I was listening to ‘Another Brick in the Wall’ and wanted to paint a wall of birds that tesselate like bricks. It could just be my location, surely everyone in the world isn’t like this, but I never meet anyone following their dreams, everyones doing what they’re expected to do and I get an earful pretty often on why their job or day sucks. It’s become a novelty. From that thought I painted a wall of birds, and title it “Where are you?” I want people to see the title and answer the question, where are they? I answer it by saying I’m not there. Some people might decide they like one of the birds more than another and decide that’s where they fit in. This is another painting form the eleven that I worked on in one week and I began with the idea of a guitar growing plants, I liked this idea since plants grow better when surrounded by music and the impact of music on it's surrounding in general. The painting also has the bow saluting back to the cello, and I couldn't decide whether the blue shape is a window or a reflection of a window from outside of the left of the painting, there's a light source from both. While painting the painting I asked Insta what they thought the painting would turn out to be and my pen pal replied with a cello. After looking up the difference I decided that cello's are more interesting to paint and should probably go with it. This painting has sparked another idea for a future painting. Spotty Pig

Lately my digital artworks have been receiving a bit more attention then my paintings, although fair enough though I've been making some solid ones while experimenting on techniques with my paintings. So I thought I'd channel into the style I create my digital artworks in. I thought turning animals spotty and surreal was easier in digital form. It definitely takes less time, although this reminded me of a statement my brother made something along the lines of being able to do way more with paintings than digital artworks, because all you need is paint. I find that particularly true with this painting as I could work on the fur with much more detail than I could in Photoshop, I also dont have any photo's of pigs in this pose... I also started painting the pig a day and a half before finishing the painting so I wonder how it would turn out if I gave myself more time. Overall, when I watch cooking shows and how they transform the animal products into something entirely unrecognisable and beautiful makes wonder what the other animals of that species would think if they were watching it, this painting reminds me of that. Goals Staring Back at Me

I began this painting when I challenged myself to create 11 paintings in one week. This one would have been a challenge on it's own since paintings with faces always take longer, I didn't finish it in that week. I originally had the idea to paint just a crowd looking toward the front of the painting, somewhat confronting then decided to include buildings and ended up with just a few faces (Caravaggio faces, since I had to pick a face) on mounds looking at the viewer. I named it 'Goals Staring Back at Me' as if I've let go of a few of them temporarily and they're waiting, staring back at me. This painting is one of the eleven/twelve that I tried painting in a week, most of them made the deadline and this is the first one I'm showing off from that adventure. Since I have no grasp on time this is another painting I used to express my feelings on time. On my list I originally planned to paint the painting with the clock hands outward like a books pages flipping through the wind, instead as I created it I decided to have them floating throughout the artwork, each hand is a person since we all interpret time at a difference pace (literally, that's a fact) some of the handles are bogged down by sheets of water that I like to paint. I's started painting an egg although when I came back to the painting after my other eleven I couldn't remember why so I ended up turning it into a silhouette of me from the back. It's a coincidence that XII sits above that (my birthday date). I chose to paint the numbers as birds since birds are also hard to get a grip on. This year my new years resolution is to save as many things from council cleanup as I throw out, to make my waste for the year zero (excluding recycling of any type). This then lead to me cleaning out my home of anything I'm saving for “one day”, it seems like so many people fill their homes with things they save for “I'll need it one day”. I could fill my car over many times with the amount of things I've been saving for “one day”. During my week of painting eleven paintings I decided that this were a topic I wanted to paint about. So I painted household items under a sheet, hidden away, over an oddly uneven ground, the landfill. Commenting on consumerism. This is a painting I painted during my week of painting eleven paintings and decided I needed to paint a giraffe that blends in with the sky and stands on bubbles, somewhat uncertain mimicking the way people tend to be much more flakey these days. When plans are “definitely” on, it's this type of definitely, like a giraffe standing on bubbles as a solid ground type of definitely. If you watch the screen recording of it being made or my reel on instagram you'll see I changed my mind a bit about the shape of the giraffe and whether it's head will be in the painting. This is a painting I created with a similar idea in mind to a digital artwork I created after the Christchurch shooting where the countries blood stain a top. I'd included all the countries in the digital artwork although this time wanted to emphasise the diversity of the countries. I'm often watching geography and history videos and a student recently asked me if the war with Ukraine would start WWIII. Without knowing the history of all the wars of the world it would seem that way but when you look up the history of each country there's usually a war included. So I painted it as if this is the load of washing you've done and you've hung it out to dry, to stay that way. I also tried to include an aspect I included in an older painting, 'The Essence of Freedom' where the flowers represents birds enjoying freedom. This time the wing is also hung out to dry. This is an anti totalitarian artwork. There can't be a society where everyones an entrepreneur or everyone does what they're told, it just wouldn't work. I feel like I could have captured that idea better, perhaps in a darker scene. I painted a road with a directional arrow being pulled up into the direction of the life boat, a lollipop representing the no entry street sign and in the corner a hand of someone who's legged it. I've been super pear focused lately, probably because I've been making more artworks in a shorter space of time and the topics of each merge together. So I made another pear! I wanted to follow up on the style of my recent 'Spotty Pig' as I noticed quite a few people saved that one.I almost left this artwork just as a spotty pear although right before I thought I finished I watched a Bosch documentary which caused me to think twice about leaving it simple. So I added a cage and an ear. After finishing it, it reminded me of listening.. how there's sound around you and sometimes you ignore the sounds and sometimes you absorb them and contemplate. I made this painting based on a digital artwork I created a couple years back in terms of layout, creating it revolved more around the time frame I gave myself and just creating it so I didn't have a concept in mind. I had to name it so I based the name on another painting I recently finished which also has a floating crossing, as if they're connected and this is the day time version. I ended up really focusing on the texture of the floor because I told insta that they can decide when I start painting a different section.. No one opted for me to move on so it ended up really detailed; that taught me that I can do better. It's up to the viewer to interpret how they see it. International Date Line

I watch videos on geography sometimes and came across one in detail on the international date line... Long story short, I start questioning the theory of time and the international date line. Without this line that's entirely made up then our rules for time don't work, to me it seems purely for convinience and the idea of time needs some more thinking over. I decided to paint how I felt about this idea of time, my head twisting between lands and trying to bridge the gaps that don't match up for me.
