Giraffe on a Stroll

I created this painting with the idea in mind that I'll paint a very tall giraffe although aimed to avoid using pink, after painting the giraffe in green it looked like a dinosaur so I had to re-evaluate and landed on pink anyway. Since the giraffe ended up in the outfit it did, the painting ended up becoming much more festive than I expected. I also painted birds to turn into banana's as they fly around the giraffe although feel like that may have been a subconscious link to the birds in Donkey Kong Country 3, a game I played a lot when I was younger. They certainly seemed familiar for some reason! The road mimics an idea I had for a digital artwork created a few years back (roughly 2020) where I took the road lines and turned them into lasers, like this painting. This time I decided that the entire scene needs to be filled with activities so I submerged the road underwater and turned the giraffes head into a sinking balloon. I painted the balloon clear to mimic a state of mind when going for a stroll on a lovely sunny day. Careless, despite any obstacles on the main road of your day. Since I'm painting one painting a week and death week threw me off a bit I smashed this painting out in three days, the idea of this painting was to focus on skill. After painting 'Fruits of my Labour' I painted 'Snacking and Daydreaming' to replicate the pear from the first one. The second painting also went well so I used the elephants from 'Snacking and Daydreaming' in 'Wall of Bubbles and Floppy Elephants' which turned out entirely different (well, they all look entirely different). So when painting this painting I decided to think about the first painting and take the dark sky and the fruits from the second painting. I've also taken elements from other paintings and challenged myself to paint a clear sheet of water. Overall, very happy with how it turned out and consider it a sequel to 'Snacking and Daydreaming' because it reminds me of a midnight snack. Nun Ya Business

I had this painting in mind for a while, sometimes when drivingg at night and there's only one other car out I wonder what they're up to or what they do for a living to get that car, or is it on loan? Thing is, I'll never know and it's not my business, the same way if someones looking at my vehicle wondering the same... not your business. I painted the idea as a road surrounded in tall trees although everything is covered in leopard print spots and the car drives on the tree walls, also covered in spots as if it's blending in – no questions to be asked, there's no car. Cat as Zebra as Bacchus

I'd been looking for plant pots and came across a listing where the owner had a cat statue and next to it a zebra statue, the zebra had been cut off in the photo so for a moment I thought I'd been looking at a cat with zebra stripes. So I painted a cat with zebra stripes. I wanted to include aspects from a recent paintings 'Self Portrait as Caravaggio as Bacchus' as I enjoyed painting the leaf that folds with the table, this time I painted it with an excessive amount of leaves and as if the cat is a zebra as Bacchus. This time with more aspects that I'd call Bacchus... If this cat's going to be a god of wine then it should be in total control of the vines. So the vines float up around the cat-zebra. I'm also a fan of animals not being perfect in my paintings so I painted this one with an amputated leg, replaced with a wheel. Self Portrait as Caravaggio as Bacchus

I've been learning about Caravaggio and the first painting I saw in a book was 'Self Portrait as Bacchus'... So I Googled Bacchus, he's the God of Wine. I found it pretty funny that Caravaggio painted himself as the God of Wine although every documentary I saw or read hadn't found the humour in it, some even looked at it as showing off sickness (peoples skin turns yellow when you drink too much, perhaps he were proud?) in terms of help. I decided to paint myself being Caravaggio while he's being Bacchus. It's slightly rushed although as I look at it longer I start to see where I could have improved, specifically in the face shape and shading in general. I chose to make the painting different aside from the general pose, some things in particular are the hair.. Since I'm painting myself being Caravaggio being Bacchus, I decide that the God of Wine's hair ends with a grape or leaf. I changed the vibrancy and colours of the grapes, placements of the peaches and shape of the vines. Copying isn't art so I couldn't see the point in copying a precise replica of the rest of the painting. I've been learning about artists in history and recently that's included Caravaggio, the first portrait I read about of his was 'Self Portrait as Bacchus'. I found it pretty funny that he painted himself as the god of wine so casually and with such skill. Along with other documented events like ripping into Baglione and trying to make it back to Rome after raising his status, it seems like Caravaggio really too the piss at some things although when I learnt about his all people would mention about his character were that Caravaggio was “tortured”. It's safe to say that people have more than one emotion so I decided to paint Caravaggio as a clown – no one lives their lives being in a tortured mood 24/7. I couldn't really pinpoint aspects of his face because I worked off two portraits that honestly look different and differ in age, although the face is only 2-3cm big so that's alright. I painted the chair to not make sense on purpose and the light source is a canvas, the positive part in life he can rely on. I painted his left arm as a long red fabric because he includes those in many of his artworks and also metaphorical for blood on his hands. I painted the door open, as if we're looking into his life and one shoe because from what I've read he's pretty gross. Overall I'd rushed this painting a bit as ironically I'd made a killer week of artwork sales and organising them intervened with painting this one. I'm firm on finishing them when I decide they'll be finished, this is a reflection of my skill and environment at the time. Off-putting Behaviour

This is a painting I decided to paint out of frustration for the weird situation some men put women in! When in a professional setting and a man spends the conversation staring at your boobs there isn't much you can do without severing the deal or putting yourself in a situation where people label you a “bitch”. I've learnt that if I just stand about 4m away then I can't see if they're looking at my boobs or not... This is off-putting behaviour at best and I put it in the category of spitting and peeing in public – not due to gender but behaviour, a clear choice. I tried to make the woman myself although she turned out quite boney so I missed the mark a tad. The men around are random and dressed in PJ's, because they're dreaming. The man closest to the viewer looks at the viewer as if to wait in anticipation for his turn. I painted the landscape as a collection of boobs, boobs are everywhere and that's a fact. Another man in the painting can't deal and buries is head in the ground. I dressed the woman as if she woke up and dressed her self in a presentable manner, I always dress well - even when there's no where to be - although have accidentally lead people to think I'm dressing well for them... When I visit Bulgaria it's clear that they also dress well more often than Aussies so I'd put that to my heritage. I painted a fold in the dress shaped as lips as if it's a secret signal which isn't actually there. Flock Party

I originally imagined this painting without spots and having the birds on a rope carrying off into the distance, out of vision, instead I decided that it would be better painted with the birds on many angles. When I see a flock of birds they always seem like they're having a party, from human standards... when people get together in packs and mingle/ eat it's usually a party so I painted the birds as I see them, festive af. I began painting feet on them and decided against it last minute, as a surrealist the birds don't need to have feet so I made the feet ropes to balloons. Interestingly, I had a few besties there that were consecutively vegans. I’m not though, I sit in the camp of meat in every meal please or it’s not a meal. I’d also always wanted a cow hide since first moving out and until I managed to afford a few I had a fake one. Then when my real ones manifested themselves I’d proudly announce there’s a cow hide in the room. Some friends wont step on it and that’s where our opinions differ, I see it as the circle of life and it’s a waste to now use the hide. So this is where the artwork comes in, it’s the circle of life. This artwork is when the bubble started to burst for me about when you realise that nepotism and appearance play a huge factor in the way the government runs. The individuals want to be voted in, bbcuase that’s their livelihood so they do things that make them look noble and favour people who can prop them up, financially and through status instead of doing what would run a country in the most fair manner. This was painted during the 2019 fires, I noticed that the most preventative measures were taken in the areas where the more “important” people lived. I was in the city and didn’t have a care that my place was goign to burn down because the government had decided that the area I live in was a no-go zone for the fire. But having volunteered for the rural fire brigade I saw my old friends working overtime to save these other areas. The Rural fire Service isn’t linked to the fire brigade, they do entirely different and unpaid work. Thought continued… Anyway, I decided to paint politics, where some parts are propped up because they’re “more important” and others are left to fend for themselves. This is an artwork I created during the 2019 fires. Australia was burning down and the politics was only starting to heat up (compared to the unrest in the following decade). Then you’d tune into news from other parts of the wold and they’d be frozen or flooding. I found it interesting that the topic was environmental and how politics can fix it but it’s just nature going through it’s larger seasons, and it just happens to be extreme ends for different parts of the world. Sometimes you follow advice from people who aren’t artists and have no idea what they’re advising but they’re older than you so you give it a go. I’ve learnt my lesson. The advice? “Paint it again it was so good!, Make more.” I’m not a decor artist and that’s what’s great about a painting, you don’t do it again. I took the advice and twisted it a bit however that stripped the artwork of its concept. You’ll see a few where I painted close ups. I wanted them to be a set with the original, ‘Waiting’ but that doesn’t really stand up in reality. Someone buys the artwork because they want that, if they were into decor art they wouldn’t be buying my artwork. So this one and the other close up didn’t follow the main man but I wanted to try and show that there could be a whole new world in the artwork if you’d zoomed in. Kind of like those vector artwork videos where people start off with a scene then create one around t and so on then record the zoom out for the clicks.
