This painting is a lightbulb, painting a landscape, or perceive it however you like. I painted it as a point of view. Often seeing people online smudging pixels in Photoshop calling the pieces “paintings”, literally, bothers me. When people do this they take away from the skill of painting, once having experienced an unhappy customer who requested a mural from me, only to find out she'd been looking at digital art, not paintings as a reference of what would result. Those are not paintings, there is no paint. So this is my painting about these “paintings”. Oil based, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity!

This painting is a bunch of tall poppies, from the saying “tall poppy syndrome” where, commonly in Australia (I hear) the most talented and high achievers are somewhat shamed for expressing or not denying their skill, so they cut the tall poppies down to size. I started making it thinking that with all the social media giving false promises of fame everyone seems to be a “tall poppy” without showing the skill or talent that could make them special (from what I see in gen Z). I felt like making another fruit bowl painting although with a cow hide skin instead of fruit skin, I thought about having one fruit cut open although that idea's probably going to be for a sequel painting. I call it vegan, I'm not the biggest fan of vegan diets so I guess this is my expression that there's no substitute for meat. Can be taken lightly as a metaphor for tofu and how vegans transform it into all the flavours. This painting came to mind after I went test driving cars and the guy almost refused to give me the keys because the car was a manual.. He literally said “No no you're a girl you can't” emphasising his perspectives. I thought about it and this sexism actually hasn't died at all, often people hide their sexism behind phrases such as “It's nice to see a woman xyz” as if we're genetically disadvantaged yet socially acceptable. I have a motorbike which makes sexism incredibly noticeable from my perspective although I feel I have all the freedom in the world. The sheer material is the “freedom”. This is something I do and made it a painting.. Sometimes when I'm out in public and notice someone looking at me I strategically stand behind a pole so I feel like they cant see me. So I painted this, a street with people hiding behind poles. Ironically though, it could be the pedestrian intentionally hiding or the car moving at a pace where the person you're watching just happens to be behind the pole as you pass, walking at the same pace (relatively) and you never satisfy the curiosity of seeing what that persons face looked like. Naturally, as a surrealist, I plopped the street in the desert and the street lines are floating up. Hand stretched, has a certificate of authenticity and sold with hooks ready to hang!

Sometimes I decide I’m tired of the photos I have with my digital artworks and take some new ones to create something I haven’t done before. This artwork was tricky as I used a new photo, where the first use of the photo is always the roughest, and also an angle from a photo I took on an adventure that I was also unsure how I could successfully use it in a digital artwork. This was another tackle at the night time artworks and a bit of a reflection on my ‘Seacliff Clouds’ artwork wanting to create another but a bit more eventful. I decided to use my pineapple hot air balloons from a previous artworks, cut some things out and there in some glowing as an ode to the bare long exposure shot.

This painting is the shape of a woman reflecting the surroundings and floating in a landscape. I chose to call this painting “Meek” because I often find myself meeting women without any passion or even hobbies, living their lives reflecting their surroundings doing what others expect of them... coasting by. I find it astounding that the majority's only “goal” is to get married, nothing more. Something you can only really bring back to the nature vs nurture debate and gender role. As I grew older though I understand the importance of gender roles but it’s interesting when they take over from the other parts of life. Having a fruit bowl artwork as an artist is a staple, so this is my take on the fruit bowl. Surreal, in my style, the wrong colours and all over the place! After finishing it, my godfather suggested I name it ‘Balanced Diet’, so I named the next one that since it was fitting for the concept. This painting is of a hammer floating in shallow waters while clouds steam from it's head. I thought I'd play with the idea that power isn't a real thing, individuals can feel powerful and act accordingly although only when they're surrounded with sheep-like personalities, the buoyancy of the water. Not necessarily a fact when it comes to the reality of placing a hammer in water. I’ve also thought about the idea that when you’re really patient with someone they may perceive it as being a push over and feel they’re superior, but really it’s just perspective… They’re just a floating hammer. I created this painting based on a digital artwork I created a few weeks prior which was incredibly well received. Knowing that from the past when I paint a digital artwork it doesn’t quite measure up, so this time I painted a different angle and with a new style using harsher gradients which I think made it unique. I call it “Traveller” because when I first looked at it after I'd painted the people in I saw a journey, like one where you travel over seas and other countries look, feel and smell as foreign as a pineapple blowing up to a hot air balloon. Floating on a crossing as if the visit is a dream. Whenever I explain how Bulgaria is to Australians I don't think they ever fully understand how different it is unless they experience going there. I am a fan of this one! This artwork stands out to me when I think back at past favourites. It took a while to sell but I’m not surprised it did. I had a couple challenges for this artwork, the first being painting a woman. I can paint portraits but under some conditions it’s trickier. It also takes a few paintings to get it right as humans are really perceptive to bad imitations. First I wanted to just include hair and get that right but in my style, then the hand and a cup. From there I also wanted to create a playful artwork where we bypass the processes from fruit to juice and just have the tree on tap. So here you go, this is the result. I was in another rabbit hole for this artwork, half concept, half skill test. I’d just understood how to create a cube like earth through my digital artworks and wanted to carry it onto a painting. That plus a concept I’d been trying out. I’m really happy with my career choice and it’s the best. I really like people who like their jobs or careers since that one choice will make your life a whole lot easier, so I like to ask people about their work and see how they speak about it. That and other parts of life. I ended up deciding that you’re the water and the balloons in this artwork come from the water (as a surreal painting does). This is a painting I made as a sentiment to my future goals, when I'm 63 and it’s February, I aim to have finished 2,000 paintings and this is how I pictured it. The wall is covered in shadows from previously hung up artworks along with empty boxes from my colouring in book series and the waterfall is what feels like an endless stream of ideas for new artworks. This was a memorable one! I wanted to know how far I could manipulate my photo of a pineapple. Having seen online back then (before AI) where other artists would make fantastic artworks out of fruit, I wanted to join in. This painting was originally meant to have balloons shaped as items which spark memories, that didn't happen. The balloons are pumping themselves up from the protagonists hand, releasing themselves and passing through the glass.. The glass represents the gateway to the past and how so many memories are let go, without spite and they all end up pleasant to look at from afar. The artwork ended up going to a woman who saw something entirely different here. She had a dream that her son who had passed visited her in a space just like this. The idea behind this shape is a pineapple growing from the ground, like a carrot, taking the shape of a Pyramid, like the ones in Egypt. I thought of the idea that Pharaohs would bury their possessions with them and then created a visual metaphor for the lack of priorities today. I noticed that the people around me at the time would rather spend their money on short term gratification like desserts (I mean buckets) and throw their money at gimmicks to fix whatever problem resulted from the unhealthy action in the first place without considering how putting the money to something less self-sabotaging could make them just as happy. Building their own pyramid of treasures, not fruit. The artwork ended up going very quickly to a pineapple lover! I’d certainly say she lives a full life and it’s certainly fitting. This artwork went through a little bit of a transformation, first I photographed some juice being poured into a cup and wanted to use the stick of the pear as the tip of the juice bottle, it didn’t end up working out and I just went rogue and turned the pears into balloons then threw a door into a mountain edge. This artwork originally had two versions where I rotated one and either had the door up right or from the ground.

This artwork was a challenging artwork, recently before beginning I’d fallen into a mini monochrome rabbit hole, seeing the wonderful ideas that could be conveyed through monochrome, but you need to do it right to be affective. I’m not sure I aced it with this one. At the time COVID was also going on and everyone was oddly segregated, I think it settled in a sense of division within the culture (at least in the main cities of Australia) for at least the following six years. I painted the rainbow but separated… It’s not really a rainbow anymore and can’t be appreciated as such. There’s also an inside joke here, “malk” for those who knew Julian Smith around 2010. A few years prior to creating this artwork I’d adventured down to Sea Cliff Bridge and photographed some fantastic long exposures. This was quite a fun artwork, naturally, as a plant person, I bought myself a pineapple to chop the top and grow my own because I think they looks cool, like the new pineapple sits in it’s own thrown as it grows. I also photograph anything interesting I come by so I can use it in a digital artwork. Following this I managed to create many pineapple artworks and this was the first. It also follows a phase where I practiced creating artificial lasers in my digital artworks.

I use the word frank as an adjective. Sometimes, when someone’s being frank they may come to a conclusion without having full thought through the idea or researched the topic and often encounter people who tell me they “don’t get art” and to them a painting on a wall may as well be a black hole for money, which to be frank, is quite a statement to tell someone about their career. Yet to me it’s ironic that people can appreciate the beauty of the rest of the world around them, just not value an idea being presented as an image. It’s interesting, so that’s what I painted. Not long ago it clicked for me that not everyone is creative… I Naively thought that people were being lazy when explaining “I can't” when it comes to thinking outside the box. Soon after I made a painting about an image that comes to mind when listening to a song which sparked discussion about what people see in their minds. I then learnt about hyperphantasia; the genetic trait to vividly see images as your hearts content in your imagination, and the opposite, aphantasia where someone struggles to create an image. I then began asking people around me what they would imagine if they imagined up an apple. I also knew one who doesn’t picture anything at all, the opposite of me. So from that thought I wanted to visualise this for other people through art, this is how it ended up. The artwork sold quite soon after completing it through an online gallery that eventually shut down. I also painted the background at a different pace to the foreground and used more oil on the foreground which caused a minor amount of cracking, this isn’t due to age but due to process and the idea of how artworks form their cracks will be a new concept for a future artwork. I saw an artwork of a painting that looked like a window when hung up, I then wanted to paint something similar but with a different concept, I also wanted to have a go at creating a painting that had more reds in it as sometimes I create plenty of blue artworks. This is a painting of some bees in bubbles floating on a cloud. For me, it's as if a bee hive has been falsely left to live out some freedom, they can’t actually explore the world as they want, the bubble takes them where life goes. I found the 9-5 corporate office job quite empty and feel as if a bee in a bubble would, not real freedom and not really accomplishing much, yet being rewarded financially on a fortnightly basis as if you have. I love a good road photo with greenery and wasn’t sure what to do with this photo, I’d also just perfected my lone cloud and decided to pop it in with some lasers that I was enjoying creating. I ended up unsure about this one, I created it as a continuation from my 'Money Tree' painting which was quite well received and was complimented by that foolish “Make another!” “tip” so I did. People like to try and solve my sales pattern without understanding that being an artist is just an unpredictable lifestyle, you need to be built for it. The first artwork, ‘Money Tree’ sold almost immediately and there were also raging fires going on in Australia so people jumped to the conclusion that the buyer must have felt moved by the fires, it’s honestly anyone’s guess, we don’t know why it moved them. But to follow up on that guess, this one reminds me of the recovery after the fires, the water sits on the tree like a koala, then ignites the lasers from within the tree, as if it's been revived from the fires. After a few years of blindly following peoples advice accompanied with plenty of pressure I decided making artworks on the advice of someone who has no experience isn’t a good tactic and I don’t do it anymore. In the concept of this artwork I took the saying of things turning “pear shaped” literally. My intention is for the pears to express how the journey of each small progress in my career goes pear shaped so often, but each obstacle in each of those tiny goals is a learning curve that I needed. So I pelt the pears at the ladder. The painting was then followed up by a sequel, they're sold together. The sequel is the ladder being dinged around by the pears and the climb continues. This is a painting I thought of while listening to the song 'White Flag' by Dido. The main part of the painting is a sunken sail which takes the shape of a white flag not catching wind, I made it to represent a fallen relationship while the other boats sail in the clouds. Turned out to be a pretty grim painting although it doesn't seem to reflect my perception at the moment, I think it’s pretty nice. I made this digital artwork to mark my 27th birthday and I was hoping to make something a lot more aligned with my style although I guess it didn't work out that way. However I'm getting good feedback on this one so I guess it’s a success! Each year for a little while there when I was still sharing artworks to instagram I’d create holiday themed artworks and this was one of them. I tried to aim for a similar artwork to my previous birthday artwork, ‘Gold Thoughts’, with a hologram, then I intended to make a giant me in the clouds moving it although I guess not.

This painting came to mind when I was listening to Midnight Oi's “Beds are Burning” song. So I painted it, then took the bands name a little literally with this artwork and made an ocean of oil. At the time I was also in a phase of seeing how much I could reduce my carbon footprint and it’s net negative if you really focus on it. So the concept is environmental here. Recently before painting this cactus I’d found myself a silver torch cacti and it’s beautiful. I’d painted cacti before as the cactus version of a stick figure human in different concepts. I’d also recently mastered how to visually create a laser in both paint or digitally from scratch so I wanted to combine these. The idea of cacti embodying a little personification and the lasers made me want to paint EDM, electronic dance music, which I was also a little bit into at the time. I am such a fan of this artwork. It’s the beginning of some extremely funky party animals showing up in my digital artworks and this is where it began. The idea came from me just wondering how tall the animals could stack up to be, I tried to get the perspective right answer remember being surprised the giraffe wouldn’t be bigger. So here it is, some party animals and that’s pretty close to the proportions.
