Before I created this I’d recently photographed a jar which I used in the previous artwork, ‘The Doughnut Jar’, and decided I’d love to see a jar filled with snakes. If you see the screen recording you’ll see I tried a few variations but ended up using a car as a lid as you see here. I also decided to include ideas from older artworks like ‘Stitching Ground’ to keep the lid on.

This is a continuation from my ‘Springhood’ artwork where I created a pear that’s a spring shape but also melts like icing. This time I wanted it to be the centrepiece and make it conceptual. While I created it I decided that it was such an interesting shape I wanted to hide it behind a bird. Playing with the idea that a bird really would get in the way of a view in real like, especially cockatoos, and adding to the mystery of what’s behind the bird.

While colouring in the ‘Car Lessons’ page in the Paintings 2022 edition of my colouring in book series I decided to create a digital artwork where I showed a car unravelling like it does in the artwork that’s shown the colouring in book. 

The artwork didn’t go to plan after executing the car slinky so I changed the scene to include an ice cream statue with a ladder on it. After that I wanted to include more so it felt busy. Less staged.

Turning a photo into jelly is a challenge, it’s something I wanted to try now that I’ve polished off a few angles of my beetle photos. I don’t think I totally mastered it, although very good first try. They’re more like lollipops instead of jelly.

This is a digital artwork I created during my 80 artworks and as I leave the home I have my ‘Hungry Giraffe’ artwork on the door which doesn’t include springs but each of these reminds me of the other. I also wanted to use the elephant more since I’d recently cleaned up the photo to a better level. I also re-created the spring so that it’s straight and could look more like legs. This is where those ideas ended up.

This is a digital artwork I decided to create without worrying about whether it were too outrageous for people to actually own, just a super sweet artwork. I created the idea based on my 'Beet Pop' artwork with zoo animals instead. I included coloured glass falling from the sky to add to the sweetness and a slightly more vibrant version of my pineapple hot air balloon from older digital artworks.

This is an artwork that came to mind when working on the previous one where I used a photo of my bicycle, only this time I felt like recreating the 'Spinraffe' artwork with cockatoos. I chose to keep the birds feathers simple as their photos have a lot going on in them anyway. I feel like this captures the general personality of cockatoos.

I was listening to ‘Another Brick in the Wall’ and wanted to paint a wall of birds that tesselate like bricks. It could just be my location, surely everyone in the world isn’t like this, but I never meet anyone following their dreams, everyones doing what they’re expected to do and I get an earful pretty often on why their job or day sucks. It’s become a novelty. From that thought I painted a wall of birds, and title it “Where are you?” I want people to see the title and answer the question, where are they? I answer it by saying I’m not there. Some people might decide they like one of the birds more than another and decide that’s where they fit in. This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

There’s an artwork I made and sold, still my favourite, named ‘Trauma’. Before making this painting I remembered a neighbour visiting my place and he went up to the painting in awe (because they’re all better in real life) and said “It’s so abstract!” I’m not an abstract artist, in any regard. Funny and annoying statement, it’s a compliment but not if you have reservations about abstract art the way I do. This artwork grabbed the attention of people in the room, goal achieved, and still trying to do the same with other artworks. So I painted the presence of that artwork in this one, a cactus in the middle of the room, while everyones going about their day but it still fills the room. Art enthusiasts, plant people… some people get it. There’s something special about inanimate objects. I continue on this thought in a different painting about painting vs moving image. While creating it I also tried to capture a new type of scene as opposed to the desert scene I like to do, I glanced upon ’By Lamplight’ by Harriet Backer which I really appreciated and tried something indoors with light peering through. This artwork has references to a couple other artworks in it. This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

I don’t like abstract art. The fact that people use the word “abstract” in so many situations where it doesn’t make sense bothers me, people have said “It’s so abstract!” when looking at my artworks… There is nothing abstract about my paintings, until now. Adding to that I’m upset that there are many decor artists calling themselves abstract artists in order to be treated as a successful artist in the view of sales, however in my point of view it’s very easy to sell decor. A real artwork needs time to be considered before purchasing and speaks to the art lover… Something entirely lost on decor. No, you will not see me throw paint or resin at a canvas for sales. I may however, do it as satire. Since the word ‘abstract’ bothers me so much I decided it’s time I make a real abstract artwork. One where I paint what I see in the form of shapes that don’t necessarily form an object where it would result in a consensus on what it represents, the definition. I painted each item with intent, here lies an apple fallen from an apple tree on a sunny day and music plays. I also definitely want to know what other people see. Humans are a communal species. It’s a fact. In the past few years I’ve noticed the increasing hostility in the community, and I’m still figuring out whether it’s the times or whether that’s just what it’s like once you’ve settled into being an adult… The veil of everyone putting on a nice front being gone? Either way, I find it incredibly ironic. I look at nature a lot and see how they all work together. I was watching some birds that seemed to be on the same team but wouldn’t share the food I threw at them. One was just too dumb to recognise the extra piece it put down was exactly what it’s chasing the other bird for. It’s funny that they’re hopping around together but also protecting their bounty like Gollum and his ring.

It’s like people but I think they’re trying to keep their pride instead of a piece of food. So I painted a bunch of jolly looking birds held together by barbed wire. The original plan was to have feet but it didn’t work out, so I mimicked my ‘Flock Party’ painting and included balloons too. The feathers fly about like they do in a bird fight and the intertwined barbed wire drips blood. This is a painting I made based on the concept of primary colours, where you can mix yellow, blue and red in any combination along with the shades black and white to make any colour. I went through a mini phase in 2020 trying to improve my cooking and thought why can't making flavours be like making colours? Why can't we assign sour sweet ect. In order to make it clear what goes “well” together. The painting is a skewer of a lemon (yellow/ sour), blueberry (blue/ sweet) and chilli (red/ spicy) dripping down their colours where the drips mix to form a watermelon which floats to the surface, in the background are oranges and cucumbers already formed. This painting warrants a second thought after I show off my painting “Cheese”, one I made a few weeks later after learning something about my brain and flavours. At the time of painting this artwork I looked at racism with a more shallow perspective and thought it’s just about excluding people who just have different features to you. Now I see the complications of racism where it’s a tribal instinct to involve or exclude people in order for some sort of self preservation, there’s also the fact that cultures who grow together do things differently that we’re used to. So, at the time when I saw it just as not liking how someone looks I decided to paint this where one person has two opposing features on their face.
