Shortly before painting this artwork I adventured to the NSW Gallery and admired the skill in the historic artworks that depict clouds, that alongside an installation that reminds me of Khazad-Dum and the dragons castle in Shrek. When I’m in a place like this, with pillars everywhere, there’s a specific atmosphere that comes along with it so I wanted to convey that with this artwork. Everyone probably agrees that there’s a rise in mental disorders alongside technology. Every now and then I meet someone who brandishes their diagnosis collection like medals, then go a step further and tell me what I am… Plot twist, I’m nothing, I’m a perfectly healthy young woman and that opinion needs to step right back to where it came from, it’s inappropriate behaviour. What I’ve understood so far… These people are using articles that show up on their first page of a, potentially bias, Google search which include phrases like “13 reasons you’re”. Or YouTube videos of someone who did that for them. These aren’t thousand page studies, or books written by psychologists but more and more people walk around as if that’s what they’re equipped with. I found one of these people particularly jarring when they had to be correct, so I questioned it and ended up with this artwork. I began painting this artwork as a man then it ended up being a woman because of paint logistics (check out the video on that one), but the concept overall was to paint books as eye lasers. As if the person who’s shooting out diagnosis’ is using their new found opinion as lasers out to get you. I painted the lasers as books since there’s no actual books going on here. If I were being socially confronted with someone who read studies I’d have taken a different approach and painted someone throwing books, so that’s where the laser books idea comes from, empty, like the weight of the opinions being thrown at me. Underneath I left the ground bare from grass since it really felt like these interactions needed to leave the person correct at all costs, no friendship will be left behind if they’re wrong, no life for anything new to grow. I also tried painting the head as a huge statue in the distance being held up by the tree, I’m not sure I hit the mark though. Sometimes I find myself hanging around people who are very preoccupied with whatever event they’re planning or mediocre activities like who they’re dating and it’s hard to maintain an actual conversation that would still be relevant in years time, like how video games improve hand eye coordination, or the pyramids. I remember talking to someone and when I brought up something less surface level she’d say “mhmm” and not add to the thought. It’s hard to find like-minded people so I painted a thinking statue, between two surfaces, I like to see it that one is filled with the faces of people who do the 9-5 and their conversations don’t extend much further than their work dramas, very important to them, but still surface level. Then on the roof it’s another perspective where there’s people who think they’re entirely different to the ones following life’s expectations but still aren’t digging deep, the topics of conversation still revolve around why this isn’t happening or that doesn’t work. I think by this point in time we’ve come across someone who’s big on over-correcting and being over-cautious to the point where all they do is sit still and watch mainstream media then spiral into the panic that they’ve set up for the week. Life really isn’t anywhere near as dangerous as people expect, it’s pretty mediocre. I recently had to purchase $20 million insurance to sell my colouring books at the local park, then so did everyone else which added up to $840 million cover. That’s overkill. I Brought this up with a few people and some saw how ridiculous it was, others began thinking about the worst case scenario and expected it to play out, they wanted me to believe that were a possibility. As if Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos is hanging around the park and they die, at my expense. This is their safety zone, don’t exit the safety zone, you will die. Don’t live your life, you will die. This artwork is a sequel to the painting I shared before this one, it’s a horse representing a human seeking out a diagnosis in order to feel whole. This is the horse with its diagnosis, the horse proudly stands front and centre showing off it’s new skin. The previous artwork showed just a skeleton with cactuses in the background, this time, since I like to use cactuses to represent people this ones turned full cactus instead of regaining the horse shin showed in the previous artwork. Instead of the items in the landscape forming a slow progression to being organised this horses environment have everything perfectly in check. The rain falls perfectly across the perfectly spaced clouds and perfectly placed plants across a perfectly wavy ground. This horse is delusional, you can’t organise life so perfectly and it’s not a horse anymore. I placed a hidden bunny in the background since I was deep in the art making habit hole at this point in time. This painting is one of my 80 artworks and a challenge to keep within the time frame! I partially painted it out of annoyance that I was asking someone to be respectful and they turned the situation around on one of their collection of four mental illnesses (a well functioning human in society). I decided to paint this artwork during my 80 artworks as I began to take note of how there’s a trend to label all quirks or even human nature as a mental disorder… Hypochondria in a nut shell, although the general mass doing this don’t seem to recognise this. Since the movement to become accepting of mental illness turned into a movement to encourage it. If I really wanted to “have” a mental illness I can rely on the trusty movement and a broadening definition to psychiatrist hop until I get that Pokemon. I thought up the idea to paint a horse skeleton and one hoof, the horse brandishes the hoof as if it’s proud and the rest of the horse isn’t complete unless it wears the skin of a mental illness, “Look at this part of me, I’m such a novelty”. At this point in time I’d painted quite a few cactuses pretty well and wanted to include them as a symbol in the background. The left one flops over because you haven’t watered your garden being so distracted. The middle one stands tall hidden behind the horse and the last one is organised into tiny cactuses, evenly spaced, floating up into the air. These remind me of the environmental expression of a mental illness where your items are where they’re supposed to be and need to stay exactly as they are. The water also plays in this left to right timeline, the left needs some attention, you need to pour the water properly. The middle turns into the horses soul and evaporated then the right is well organised dripping like rain over the clouds. I began the idea of a stripped skeleton before looking up what a horse skeleton looked like and to be frank I didn’t think they’d look so odd. I’d started the concept and ran with it. I tend to tell people I’m annoyed with them… conflict resolution. However before creating this I thought about the people around me who have an issue with something and act like they’re all fine. Society doesn’t really allow room for people to have a mood anymore, especially with this mental health movement, despite being a human function. We seem to be expected to be corporate 24/7 and handle things in a passive aggressive manner by being polite. Sometimes the situation calls for telling people how it is and you won’t look professional, there’s a chance you may be diagnosed with a disorder by your local hairdresser and that’s how it is. It’s impossible to resolve conflict with passive aggressive people to be frank, and I genuinely wonder, when’s the tipping point? When’s the bottle going to break and overreact? Why would anyone act this way to be liked. I originally imagined up a more detailed artwork but as I continued to create it, that didn’t fit the concept… Outside the bottle (their mind) everything’s calm, quiet, nothing is out of place. Inside the bottle, nothing looks comfortable. In the words of Pauline Hanson… “I don’t like it”. In the background, a broken bottle that made a cloud. As I watched an astrology lecture I noticed one of the astrologers who’s opinion I respect mention “magic”. At first I thought he was joking then I realised, no, this person genuinely believes in magic. Down the magic rabbit hole I went and learnt that there’s a whole community that believe in magic. Respectable people. Listening to how they came to make sense of it made sense to me and up it’s to this artwork description reader to learn for themselves. However the gist is these people are manipulating the luck they have at hand, not working spells to be billionaires that we’d all assume. I continue this train of thought in a different artwork, however this idea pivots in comparison to the other. During my rabbit hole hunt I came across a story about a well respected psychologist(?) who had the chance to speak somewhere. He picked someone from the audience to take his jacket and he’ll give them $10. Gladly they did. Until he told them a murderer owned this jacket. How can you entirely dismiss magic yet believe a jacket is tainted because a murderer owned it. Perhaps some people are more in tune, a sentence that comes up often. I painted the jacket in the forefront, and each pear representing people front and centre, however the more in tune pear had a mini world swirling around it. Perhaps this could be the most interesting still life image you’ll see today. If you can call it still life. I woke up from a dream shortly before painting this artwork, well... I thought I woke up from a dream, then I thought I woke up from a dream again, then I woke to a dream that was actually a dream then I actually woke up. I found this insane, I’d never had such a weird experience and had to paint it, I felt like Christopher Nolan must have had a similar dream in order to feel compelled to write ‘Inception’. All that aside, I rushed into painting it and don’t think I captured what I felt, but here’s to the first attempt! The first two dreams were entirely mundane which threw me off, the last one, clearly I was in a dream at that point. So I painted an entry, a super basic entry, then a garden, then a wave in a room. After some indecision with the concept on this artwork I’d watched a Tom Cruise interview being analysed and the journalist brought up confirmation bias; going into your research on a topic only to confirm your opinion. So I decided to play with this idea. You may look at this artwork and see the floating circles creating a large cylinder shape, or you might see them as a flat mesh of circles pivoting on their own axis, you might even decide that they aren’t circles and some are ellipses. The next decision the viewer would make is to look for other elements in the artwork to give confirm whichever opinion they’ve set on. I haven’t included any hints to which is what, so, to mimic anyones real life research to confirm their bias on anything it’s up to you to see what’s not intentionally there to confirm what you see and the environment is the same for everyone. I'm against doing commissions however this one seemed a tad unique and I took it on, the end result doesn't look like this and I won't be showing the final result. That is exclusive to the owner and I'm very proud of the first version. The original request of this artwork were to re-create a small painting I'd made, 'Solid Choice', only larger. I changed this artwork up accordingly, this time keeping the sheet flat and having water holding it up. I included the spotty birds which feature in my artwork, 'Flock Party' to represent a rainbow which refers to a jargon term from an event in the owners life. I included a pear as my stamp on the artwork and Virgo the constellation as the man in the painting has an Irish/ Russian background which both share a Virgo rising sign. Since I've been looking at Bosch artworks lately I'm interested in adding detail in the artworks. There is morse code in this one.

This is one of my more cryptic painting than the others, I painted a hand with a cow hide pattern and cows legs as finger tips to represent leather gloves. I've been working on changing the structure of my paintings so when painting this one I wanted to obstruct the view as opposed to looking directly on it. The same way extreme vegans may obstruct your admiration of a leather product which may have been sourced humanely. The sail on the tree is something I enjoyed painting and I'll continue it in another painting. Lockdown artwork from Sep 26. This artwork was a challenging artwork, recently before beginning I’d fallen into a mini monochrome rabbit hole, seeing the wonderful ideas that could be conveyed through monochrome, but you need to do it right to be affective. I’m not sure I aced it with this one. At the time COVID was also going on and everyone was oddly segregated, I think it settled in a sense of division within the culture (at least in the main cities of Australia) for at least the following six years. I painted the rainbow but separated… It’s not really a rainbow anymore and can’t be appreciated as such. I think this artwork hits home harder for residents in Melbourne. The buyer ended up being from there. When I paint cacti I like to think of them of versions of people and I’m really proud of how this one turned out. At the time, COVID had hit and we were all required to wear masks out in public. Some people inferred that at ini your car with all your windows up too, studies also show it didn’t make a difference and anyone with an opposing opinion was silenced. So whether you see this as the cactus was silenced or the cactus wants to wear the mask it’s up to you. Interestingly, I had a few besties there that were consecutively vegans. I’m not though, I sit in the camp of meat in every meal please or it’s not a meal. I’d also always wanted a cow hide since first moving out and until I managed to afford a few I had a fake one. Then when my real ones manifested themselves I’d proudly announce there’s a cow hide in the room. Some friends wont step on it and that’s where our opinions differ, I see it as the circle of life and it’s a waste to now use the hide. So this is where the artwork comes in, it’s the circle of life. I think we’ve all unknowably been there. Where you’re presented with a problem and it’s quite a problem so you think about it probably a bit too much, then your perspective becomes warped and you make decisions based on the warped perception you have of the problem. This is how I wanted to represent that, your road took a sharp downward turn. You never know what’s going on in someone’s life when you meet them. We also live in a culture where online presence plays a big factor in keeping up with the Joneses. I wanted to paint the idea that in many cases someones putting up an image of squeaky clean perfect duck and underneath the water is actually a bunch of brown feathers frantically paddling away keeping things together. This artwork is a close friends favourite, it really resonates with her and she ended up snapping it up. She would always look at it and cross her fingers it ended up in her home and it eventually did! This artwork was created as part of the mini series with cactuses. The cactus is skin coloured and the paint pouring from the sky now turns into flowers as it lands on the cactus. I call it “Special Edition” because, based on the idea that the other painting, Trauma, was based on living through situations, this is the variation where the subject thrives in the environment and turns the paint to flowers, metaphorically turning a bad situation to a wonderful one, they're the special edition. Sometimes you follow advice from people who aren’t artists and have no idea what they’re advising but they’re older than you so you give it a go. I’ve learnt my lesson. The advice? “Paint it again it was so good!, Make more.” I’m not a decor artist and that’s what’s great about a painting, you don’t do it again. I took the advice and twisted it a bit however that stripped the artwork of its concept. You’ll see a few where I painted close ups. I wanted them to be a set with the original, ‘Waiting’ but that doesn’t really stand up in reality. Someone buys the artwork because they want that, if they were into decor art they wouldn’t be buying my artwork. So this one and the other close up didn’t follow the main man but I wanted to try and show that there could be a whole new world in the artwork if you’d zoomed in. Kind of like those vector artwork videos where people start off with a scene then create one around t and so on then record the zoom out for the clicks. On one of my trips to Bulgaria in 2017, my cousin family took me to adventure to some of the tourist attractions. This is The Red Church, an abandoned church and I just fixed up the photo a little bit before deeming it complete.

In 2017 I visited the Old Town in Plovdiv and took a photo of the tree there. I’d previously taken a photo of my cousin there and wanted a bare shot where I could mess with the leaves and lighting. This is the result.
