This year my new years resolution is to save as many things from council cleanup as I throw out, to make my waste for the year zero (excluding recycling of any type). This then lead to me cleaning out my home of anything I'm saving for “one day”, it seems like so many people fill their homes with things they save for “I'll need it one day”. I could fill my car over many times with the amount of things I've been saving for “one day”. During my week of painting eleven paintings I decided that this were a topic I wanted to paint about. So I painted household items under a sheet, hidden away, over an oddly uneven ground, the landfill. Commenting on consumerism. This is a digital artwork I tried to tackle a couple weeks earlier although entirely ditched my plan and created another bicycle artwork (which turned out pretty nice!). I thought before I take it off my to-do list that I should try again, this is almost what I'd aimed to create except my imagination only included the top bicycle from the side view. I included the top view because I couldn't decide which image to use.

This is a painting I created with a similar idea in mind to a digital artwork I created after the Christchurch shooting where the countries blood stain a top. I'd included all the countries in the digital artwork although this time wanted to emphasise the diversity of the countries. I'm often watching geography and history videos and a student recently asked me if the war with Ukraine would start WWIII. Without knowing the history of all the wars of the world it would seem that way but when you look up the history of each country there's usually a war included. So I painted it as if this is the load of washing you've done and you've hung it out to dry, to stay that way. I also tried to include an aspect I included in an older painting, 'The Essence of Freedom' where the flowers represents birds enjoying freedom. This time the wing is also hung out to dry. This painting is one of the eleven/twelve that I tried painting in a week, most of them made the deadline and this is the first one I'm showing off from that adventure. Since I have no grasp on time this is another painting I used to express my feelings on time. On my list I originally planned to paint the painting with the clock hands outward like a books pages flipping through the wind, instead as I created it I decided to have them floating throughout the artwork, each hand is a person since we all interpret time at a difference pace (literally, that's a fact) some of the handles are bogged down by sheets of water that I like to paint. I's started painting an egg although when I came back to the painting after my other eleven I couldn't remember why so I ended up turning it into a silhouette of me from the back. It's a coincidence that XII sits above that (my birthday date). I chose to paint the numbers as birds since birds are also hard to get a grip on. This is a painting that I created in order to challenge myself to use a smaller canvas, I'm not an artist who uses small centrepieces (or none) so this certainly proved to be a challenge. I also used leftover canvas from my last roll which is more coarse which doesn't let me work on detail as smoothly as I'd like so when I finished the artwork I feel like it turned out pretty well considering the situation I put myself in! I painted a bird and wanted to carry on the style from a painting a few paintings ago 'Midnight Snack' with solid waves and tiny bubbles/ balloons. This time I couldn't decide whether the bird would be swimming, flying or dreaming. I figure you're doing it all in a dream anyway so it's doing it all in a dreamlike artwork. This is a painting I created with the idea to paint the feeling of waiting for the rain to end. I also wanted to create something well executed like a painting I'd made a couple weeks earlier 'Midnight Snack'. By the end of the painting I'd started reading a book on Magritte and found his work a tad sloppy so I felt compelled to work harder on making sure the painting had been polished off. Pears (and cactuses) feature as metaphors for people in my paintings and these pairs wait under a sheet of water acting as a jail by the growing stems and birds emerge from the water since they just live in the water when it rains. I created this painting with the idea in mind that I'll paint a very tall giraffe although aimed to avoid using pink, after painting the giraffe in green it looked like a dinosaur so I had to re-evaluate and landed on pink anyway. Since the giraffe ended up in the outfit it did, the painting ended up becoming much more festive than I expected. I also painted birds to turn into banana's as they fly around the giraffe although feel like that may have been a subconscious link to the birds in Donkey Kong Country 3, a game I played a lot when I was younger. They certainly seemed familiar for some reason! The road mimics an idea I had for a digital artwork created a few years back (roughly 2020) where I took the road lines and turned them into lasers, like this painting. This time I decided that the entire scene needs to be filled with activities so I submerged the road underwater and turned the giraffes head into a sinking balloon. I painted the balloon clear to mimic a state of mind when going for a stroll on a lovely sunny day. Careless, despite any obstacles on the main road of your day. Since I'm painting one painting a week and death week threw me off a bit I smashed this painting out in three days, the idea of this painting was to focus on skill. After painting 'Fruits of my Labour' I painted 'Snacking and Daydreaming' to replicate the pear from the first one. The second painting also went well so I used the elephants from 'Snacking and Daydreaming' in 'Wall of Bubbles and Floppy Elephants' which turned out entirely different (well, they all look entirely different). So when painting this painting I decided to think about the first painting and take the dark sky and the fruits from the second painting. I've also taken elements from other paintings and challenged myself to paint a clear sheet of water. Overall, very happy with how it turned out and consider it a sequel to 'Snacking and Daydreaming' because it reminds me of a midnight snack. I had this painting in mind for a while, sometimes when drivingg at night and there's only one other car out I wonder what they're up to or what they do for a living to get that car, or is it on loan? Thing is, I'll never know and it's not my business, the same way if someones looking at my vehicle wondering the same... not your business. I painted the idea as a road surrounded in tall trees although everything is covered in leopard print spots and the car drives on the tree walls, also covered in spots as if it's blending in – no questions to be asked, there's no car. I'd been looking for plant pots and came across a listing where the owner had a cat statue and next to it a zebra statue, the zebra had been cut off in the photo so for a moment I thought I'd been looking at a cat with zebra stripes. So I painted a cat with zebra stripes. I wanted to include aspects from a recent paintings 'Self Portrait as Caravaggio as Bacchus' as I enjoyed painting the leaf that folds with the table, this time I painted it with an excessive amount of leaves and as if the cat is a zebra as Bacchus. This time with more aspects that I'd call Bacchus... If this cat's going to be a god of wine then it should be in total control of the vines. So the vines float up around the cat-zebra. I'm also a fan of animals not being perfect in my paintings so I painted this one with an amputated leg, replaced with a wheel. I started off this painting with a very different idea in mind although as I worked on it another painting sold and I decided to include a similar elephant from that one and then it took a turn to look much more like my digital artworks. I struggled a bit with the technicalities of this paintings base layer texture. Originally I wanted the bubbles to act as an invisible barrier, although the concept is up to the viewer. I don't think there's enough artworks to relate to disabled people, there's so many that don't acknowledge it so I'm adding to the collection of my wheelchair animals (amputee animals?) I played with depth in this artwork and made some last minute changes to the colours and shapes of the elephants.
Self Portrait as Caravaggio as Bacchus

I've been learning about Caravaggio and the first painting I saw in a book was 'Self Portrait as Bacchus'... So I Googled Bacchus, he's the God of Wine. I found it pretty funny that Caravaggio painted himself as the God of Wine although every documentary I saw or read hadn't found the humour in it, some even looked at it as showing off sickness (peoples skin turns yellow when you drink too much, perhaps he were proud?) in terms of help. I decided to paint myself being Caravaggio while he's being Bacchus. It's slightly rushed although as I look at it longer I start to see where I could have improved, specifically in the face shape and shading in general. I chose to make the painting different aside from the general pose, some things in particular are the hair.. Since I'm painting myself being Caravaggio being Bacchus, I decide that the God of Wine's hair ends with a grape or leaf. I changed the vibrancy and colours of the grapes, placements of the peaches and shape of the vines. Copying isn't art so I couldn't see the point in copying a precise replica of the rest of the painting. I've been learning about artists in history and recently that's included Caravaggio, the first portrait I read about of his was 'Self Portrait as Bacchus'. I found it pretty funny that he painted himself as the god of wine so casually and with such skill. Along with other documented events like ripping into Baglione and trying to make it back to Rome after raising his status, it seems like Caravaggio really too the piss at some things although when I learnt about his all people would mention about his character were that Caravaggio was “tortured”. It's safe to say that people have more than one emotion so I decided to paint Caravaggio as a clown – no one lives their lives being in a tortured mood 24/7. I couldn't really pinpoint aspects of his face because I worked off two portraits that honestly look different and differ in age, although the face is only 2-3cm big so that's alright. I painted the chair to not make sense on purpose and the light source is a canvas, the positive part in life he can rely on. I painted his left arm as a long red fabric because he includes those in many of his artworks and also metaphorical for blood on his hands. I painted the door open, as if we're looking into his life and one shoe because from what I've read he's pretty gross. Overall I'd rushed this painting a bit as ironically I'd made a killer week of artwork sales and organising them intervened with painting this one. I'm firm on finishing them when I decide they'll be finished, this is a reflection of my skill and environment at the time. This is a painting I decided to paint out of frustration for the weird situation some men put women in! When in a professional setting and a man spends the conversation staring at your boobs there isn't much you can do without severing the deal or putting yourself in a situation where people label you a “bitch”. I've learnt that if I just stand about 4m away then I can't see if they're looking at my boobs or not... This is off-putting behaviour at best and I put it in the category of spitting and peeing in public – not due to gender but behaviour, a clear choice. I tried to make the woman myself although she turned out quite boney so I missed the mark a tad. The men around are random and dressed in PJ's, because they're dreaming. The man closest to the viewer looks at the viewer as if to wait in anticipation for his turn. I painted the landscape as a collection of boobs, boobs are everywhere and that's a fact. Another man in the painting can't deal and buries is head in the ground. I dressed the woman as if she woke up and dressed her self in a presentable manner, I always dress well - even when there's no where to be - although have accidentally lead people to think I'm dressing well for them... When I visit Bulgaria it's clear that they also dress well more often than Aussies so I'd put that to my heritage. I painted a fold in the dress shaped as lips as if it's a secret signal which isn't actually there. I created this artwork from some elements I'd previously used/ created from scratch in other artworks. The long giraffe neck had been sampled from my 'Long Neck' artwork and the watermelon had originally been used prior and then while creating this I decided to start from scratch to really make is as perfectly round as possible.

I originally imagined this painting without spots and having the birds on a rope carrying off into the distance, out of vision, instead I decided that it would be better painted with the birds on many angles. When I see a flock of birds they always seem like they're having a party, from human standards... when people get together in packs and mingle/ eat it's usually a party so I painted the birds as I see them, festive af. I began painting feet on them and decided against it last minute, as a surrealist the birds don't need to have feet so I made the feet ropes to balloons. This is hand stretched and will be sold with hooks ready to hang!

This painting is a sequel to my painting 'Priorities' which is a pineapple pyramid (sold). The original idea came from the Pharaohs pyramids crossed with witnessing how people around me would spend money on unhealthy items for instant gratification then sulk about the repercussions.. rinse and repeat. So instead of making a painting of a pyramid symbolising the possessions and status I painted a cubist fruit to represent investing in your heath as opposed to things that don't actually contribute to your life in a positive way. In this painting I painted strawberry print for the first time and also included flamingos with peacock tails (the ultimate show-off bird), The strawberries leaves become wings or vice versa and this painting is one where I experimented with depth by blurring the background. This is a painting that I began painting with the idea to create a cactus print on a pear and a cow hide print on a cactus, these ideas came to mind from past paintings such as 'Fruits of My Labour' and 'Trauma'. I began with that idea as I've just started a new, more fine roll of canvas and a perfect opportunity to work on more details! By the time I'd worked through the painting I ended up using colours I'm not a fan of (the red hue orange) and ended up going with it by adding a sheer plastic. I use the cactus and cowhide pears in my paintings to represent yourself, this time with lollipops in it representing my projects reminiscent of the representation of Mercury (reddish-orange) and the plastic is the retrograde. If you're into astrology then you'd know that Mercury retrograde puts a halt on things so this is how I wanted to represent that. After purchasing a speaker it looked like a canvas so I popped a painting on it, I like to use pink in my music paintings because pink is the colour of a high pitched sound for me, the flamingo dances it's way through the speaker and turns up the sound while the knob drips down some music to create a glass pear. The flamingo then reappears at the front to what I like to think of the spots as the next song. The material is much thicker than canvas and more difficult to paint on so I currently have no plans to do that again. The priming involved some gesso (as it should!) so the sound turned out muffled so I've taken it off as it's own artwork and repurposed an old frame. Note that I'm not a professional frame maker... I began painting this painting with the idea that I'd paint a table of terrible food, burnt and undercooked food. Although as I made the background I'd realised that I can't have the foreground detailed as well as the background so the painting ended up taking a path parallel to most of my cooking ventures; I start off with an idea and then it derails. I'm quite happy with how the painting ended up (unlike my meals) and decided the front is a vague result, coining the term (yep I'm coining it) geometric surrealism. The painting’s original idea came from a weird situation I find myself in. I'm lactose and gluten intolerant and sugar doesn't sit well so people like to take shortcuts when inviting me for food and end up poisoning me (testing my diet, specifically people skeptical of gluten intolerance) so I'm left with the only alternative to invite them over for bad food instead. Recently I started reading books (instead of articles), I figured the amount of effort it takes to whip up an article has become almost benign and isn't as factual as they used to be so I read some books. The first one was a motivational book (so I'd be motivated to read more books) and not long after I found myself trying to read all the books instantly, I needed to finish them all. So I decided to create a painting about that. The woman in this painting wears an old style dress (because books are an old resource) and is covered by books, floating in a room. I painted the roof a leopard print drooping down and the floor large leaves or grass. Each of the roof and floor interact with the woman as if they're books and she's absorbing the knowledge. The woman is shown to shoot out clouds out the window which, for me, is what she gives back. Oil based, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity!
