This was an artwork that later turned into something special through it’s sequel. I created this out of photo’s I’d taken and a CGI render of a tree, back when you needed to know how to manipulate a program to create a CGI instead of the program doing it for you. I created it because I’ve always loved those photos of a lone tree in water and a beautiful scene in the background, I’m told by a friend there’s one in New Zealand. I’m not around any so I decided to make one myself. Later on I then created a sequel which is a blue version and when my uncle died my grandma found the image thinking it was a random artwork, not mine (she has quite a collection of images) and used it as my uncles funeral card. For me it then clicked what art really means to people. It’s not just a concept well executed, it’s personal.

This is a digital artwork I created in 2018, at the time I was building a portfolio on instagram to showcase my artworks (then later stripped of them to stop AI training) so I created this purely for the love of creating it and showing off my skills. It’s created from a few photos I took, most likely at Diamond Bay in Sydney then warped using Photoshop.

While creating this artwork I’d been riding for a few years, a motorbike, to me, isn’t just transport, it’s like being seven-teen and going for a bicycle ride. You have a car but this is for fun. I also had some friends who sold their bikes to exchange the money for things like holidays, which I couldn’t understand. So I aimed to paint my bike as a heart, the ugly kind of organ shaped heart and I carried on the paint pouring from my previous successful artworks. That was partially concept and something I’d wanted to do and partially mediocre advice from the people around me who aren’t artists and say “Paint another just like it!” To my paint pouring concept. This artwork is one of my best represented artworks in my original colouring in book, just sharing that you can make an amazing artwork yourself with this one! It’s an artwork I still look back at and think, “I really hit the mark with this”. Birds are meant to represent freedom and money is meant to unlock freedom. But how much have you sold your soul for corporate life? I tell my friends that as an artist, yes my income is currently lower (until one day), but I’m just as wealthy as the next because I’m spending my time doing what I love. Whereas when you work in a place you don’t enjoy, you only have about 2 hours each day as actual leisure, then the weekends, sometimes filled with chores (unless you have robots). So naturally, you spend whatever money you have on compensating. So there you go, there’s your freedom dampened by the man. This artwork reflects the ‘Me Too’ movement, which in hindsight took a plot twist and now see the artwork in a different light. At the time I painted an invisible man, likely with the idea that men can get away with being mysognynistic and having little blow back. Now the tables have turned, the men who see serious consequences of saying hi to a woman then being publicly labelled as a creep online have backed off entirely and the ones who didn’t care, continue not to. Leaving men unseen, the dating culture has paused and in general being a gentlemen carries risks. This artwork has a little lore to it and is unavailable. In 2017 I created a digital artwork of a cup with a forest in it, I really liked the idea and wanted my own mini earth in a cup. A common artwork concept. From there I then continued my challenge of recreating digital artworks with paint, quite a challenge. The artwork was then entered and a finalist for the 20cm x 20xm inaugural art prize. After it returned and a few years later I decided to gift it to my grandma and currently sits proudly in her home. In 2017 I went on one of my photography adventures and played down at a park in North Sydney and took a photo of the sky in the middle of a palm tree ring. I often return to the challenge of recreating a digital artwork with paint and am yet to master it, they’re just too different mediums to ace it. So as I continued my challenge I also threw in a different challenge where for the first time I completed ten artworks in ten weeks, this is one of them. This artwork was created in early 2019, beneath it was an attempt at a different artwork of a woman but I rage quit and continued with this one. I call it trauma, titled before the word was over-used in everyday language by gen z, to describe peoples perseverance. When you pour paint on a plant it has no choice but to continue growing through it, so take that and apply it to your own hardships. This artwork may end up being my favourite forever and has had more cacti added to the collection but with different concepts. This cactus has become a symbol for my artworks as Magritte is to his apple. At the time of painting this artwork I looked at racism with a more shallow perspective and thought it’s just about excluding people who just have different features to you. Now I see the complications of racism where it’s a tribal instinct to involve or exclude people in order for some sort of self preservation, there’s also the fact that cultures who grow together do things differently that we’re used to. So, at the time when I saw it just as not liking how someone looks I decided to paint this where one person has two opposing features on their face. Before this artwork I created a self portrait which was another challenge artwork to paint a digital artwork. Then I decided to create another version, this artwork, based on the idea that artists have a reputation of being hopeless, and always high. If I tell someone who already has this bias that I’m an artist they automatically assume I’m high, can’t keep deadlines and all that goes along with the reputation, when really, it’s just the loudest ones keeping up this unfortunate image. So I created a version of my self portrait with a cocain bag instead of sunnies and the plant growing in the background instead of the flowers from my kimono in my self portrait. Every now and then it’s time to paint a self portrait, the self portraits before this one were assignments so I decided it’s time to create one without an institution requiring it. This time with more creative free reign, the background is the print of a kimono I wear sometimes when making art, the sunnies have digital artworks from landscape photo’s I’ve taken and the portrait part is based on a photo I took. This is an artwork I created in 2017 based on my artwork ‘Elephant’ and then smudged it in Photoshop hoping to make a digital artwork, then rage quit and painted it instead because the styles don’t cross over. Great outcome though because it turns out everyone else see’s this as a bird. It took me a few years to see the bird and it becomes a great discussion topic showing people the elephant. Later on I then looked back at this artwork and went down a rabbit hole of illusions. It became a finalist for the Royal Art Society, Youth Prize in North Sydney. This artwork is was originally acrylic then I painted it again with oil once I found water mixable oils. Early on when starting out my art career I’d try out different tactics to see what works with me and artworks that had meaning to me, I didn’t hit the mark with this but I gave it a go. I created a much smaller artwork named ‘Biggie Original’ that looks just like this. It was really well received with the people around me and they all told me to do another… Advice from people who aren’t selling artists. I gave it a go and made this tryptic which was originally just three seperate artworks and I later combined into one. It wasn’t meaningful to me to just create the same artwork over and over again and it felt very “I’m on sale at the counter at spotlight, decor” so I decided that was bad advice. I do like the artworks though and it was a good learning curve! This artwork is acrylic, isn’t one of my hand-stretched ones but the “frames” I used are decor prints and the frame is MDF so I market the price lower for all three the artwork was sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

This is a painting of Biggie Smalls (notorious B.I.G.) I created during a series of paintings including Snoop Dogg and Tupac where I fell into the rabbit hole of watching documentaries of their challenges building their careers and the black community. This artwork then took a spin where I took on the style of an artwork I created of an elephant, named, ‘Elephant’ which is now hanging at my mums place. I did the trek down to Garie beach in the Royal National Park, NSW and returned with a photo of the Figure Eight pool that I’m pretty proud of. So when the Wynne Prize, 2018 rolled around I decided to paint a recreation of the digital artwork, still coming to the realisation it’s quite a challenge to swap between types or art! There was an abandoned artwork beneath this one where the paint marks can still be seen on an angle. The previous artwork was about the plastic lifestyle of celebrities and showed Taylor Swift cling wrapped to the canvas. Unfortunately this artwork has gone missing! So I guess it’ll be one of those that resurfaces when my career takes off. It was safely hanging in a dentists office as advertisement to buy and it’s home should the artwork sell through one of my channels and the office changed ownership and now it’s gone. Before painting this artwork, I created a digital artwork just like this and enjoyed putting lightning in my artworks, so I decided to see how it works out with paint. It’s a challenge that ended up being a long-standing challenge and I’m not sure the two art forms will ever meet in the middle. You’ll see I try this challenge many times over the years. A painting of Tupac I created in 2016. It's was a long standing favourite for a long time and sat in my entry hallway to greet people. I began it before I began using the water mixable oils and under the oil layer is the same artwork but in acrylic.
