This is an artwork I made during my 80 and one where I decided to channel a much older painting, ‘Surrender’ which I really like since it makes me feel like I’ve teleported somewhere else. That idea, alongside also wanting to turn the sail from the other artwork into a tap, as if it’s making it’s way into this painting through a tap that I used in my painting ‘On tap’. Never Really Gone

I really enjoyed painting ‘Everything and Nothing’, an artwork similar to this with a pear shaped hill, alluding to there being a pear, yet it’s just a landscape so there’s nothing there. That artworks gone now and I wanted to create another, however slightly different idea in mind. This time the hill is a cow. Death reminded me of this idea, when you bury a pet, or anything, the grass is greener, so naturally the moisture droplets evaporate through the greenery over night. When someone dies, you don’t just forget they existed so I painted the water hanging over the hill like memories. Tasting Sound Hearing Flavour

This is another artwork about synesthesia, although instead of a particular taste I wanted to play on the crossing of senses visually. Someone in passing mentioned “tasting shapes” as a joke about how they were confused about something. It made me think about how I do taste shapes, I very much describe flavour in terms of shapes and colour, although an entirely useless way to communicate the description of a flavour even to other people who imagine things with synesthesia. However a very useful way to start an interesting conversation.

So here’s my artwork hearing flavour, an ear travelling across a pear doused in pink passing by a nose smelling a green floating wave. Bouncing between its own walls (your own mind) and half a statue thinking on one side while the head drips down the other.

Watching Talent

This is an artwork I decided to paint when noticing how much I appreciate watching 80’s rock music videos, then watch the talented people become so successful so young. So this is how I feel when seeing them, like a skeleton still waiting on something I do to create the same success. I painted the moon on the skeletons side stuck in a bubble, similar to a chain of thoughts from my digital artworks where I began with a cross walking sign which turned into feet in a bubble. The carpet turns into blood and the (for anyone outside my train of thought) the rectangular prisms with waves on them is a fence separating the two worlds.. Waking Up

This is a painting I decided to paint in reference to two other artworks, ‘Midnight Snack’ and ‘Dreaming of Tidal Waves’. I enjoy painting in that style and felt like painting a dark artwork having ventured into difference styles recently. I intended on painting some form of dreaming and as I tried to paint through sleep (I’d been creating ten artworks that week) I repeatedly woke from mini-almost naps with new ideas for this artwork. Unfortunately I didn’t allow myself enough time to include all the ideas (they’re included in my YouTube artventure video though) although I do believe I managed to reach an entry level representation of waking up. I painted the clear sheet of water as the feeling of moving from sleep to wake and the deep thick, non-transparent water as the sleep. I originally planned to include my pineapple hot air balloon from other artworks although that didn’t work out so I lead the rope to nowhere. Confirmation Bias

After some indecision with the concept on this artwork I’d watched a Tom Cruise interview being analysed and the journalist brought up confirmation bias; going into your research on a topic only to confirm your opinion. So I decided to play with this idea. You may look at this artwork and see the floating circles creating a large cylinder shape, or you might see them as a flat mesh of circles pivoting on their own axis, you might even decide that they aren’t circles and some are ellipses. The next decision the viewer would make is to look for other elements in the artwork to give confirm whichever opinion they’ve set on. I haven’t included any hints to which is what, so, to mimic anyones real life research to confirm their bias on anything it’s up to you to see what’s not intentionally there to confirm what you see and the environment is the same for everyone. This year I'm more against consumerism than usual, my new years resolution is to save as many items from council cleanup as bags of rubbish I throw out. Since then I've realised that most of my trash is actually re-usable in some form (compost, local scrap metal, recycling centre). Which then translated to preferring second hand items and watching how people shop as a hobby. I painted the taps to represent the unlimited amount of items someone can buy and decided to create the first tap a human statue tap but painted the man upset and bombarded by the other taps. I started painting this with an entirely different idea in mind although by the time I painted it, it turned into something else. There's definitely people seeing that I'm making art but not actually seeing how much work I do to get there so they're the birds. They're not watching and they're taking note. I decided to paint a self portrait since I happen to be whipping them out every few years, this time I didn't paint it as a mid-shot front on artwork but a reflection of how I've spent my 20's. Painting until I drop at the easel. Painting the look of gold (without using gold) is a challenge I've been working on lately and my home is gold themed so I tackled that in this painting as well, turning the furniture gold. I still don't think I've figured it out so I guess it's also a reflection of how much progress I'd made with gold by this age. This is a painting I created with a similar idea in mind to a digital artwork I created after the Christchurch shooting where the countries blood stain a top. I'd included all the countries in the digital artwork although this time wanted to emphasise the diversity of the countries. I'm often watching geography and history videos and a student recently asked me if the war with Ukraine would start WWIII. Without knowing the history of all the wars of the world it would seem that way but when you look up the history of each country there's usually a war included. So I painted it as if this is the load of washing you've done and you've hung it out to dry, to stay that way. I also tried to include an aspect I included in an older painting, 'The Essence of Freedom' where the flowers represents birds enjoying freedom. This time the wing is also hung out to dry. No Time

This painting is one of the eleven/twelve that I tried painting in a week, most of them made the deadline and this is the first one I'm showing off from that adventure. Since I have no grasp on time this is another painting I used to express my feelings on time. On my list I originally planned to paint the painting with the clock hands outward like a books pages flipping through the wind, instead as I created it I decided to have them floating throughout the artwork, each hand is a person since we all interpret time at a difference pace (literally, that's a fact) some of the handles are bogged down by sheets of water that I like to paint. I's started painting an egg although when I came back to the painting after my other eleven I couldn't remember why so I ended up turning it into a silhouette of me from the back. It's a coincidence that XII sits above that (my birthday date). I chose to paint the numbers as birds since birds are also hard to get a grip on. Seventh Lifetime

I started this with the intention to make a painting with a cow hide floor in the desert, where the hide is the ground. I then made the painting as I went along and painted bones then birds emerging from the hide, flying into the clouds and seedlings sprouting. When I finished the painting I decided to name it after what comes to mind when I look at it, reincarnation comes to mind. I named it 7th lifetime because I wanted to leave the feeling with the viewer that it's a cycle on repeat. In the distance a red planet, red for energy.
