In this artwork I play with psychology and gentrification. As I opened Saatchiart to upload one of my artworks another “artwork” caught my attention. This was priced at $20K+, so I clicked onto the artwork to see what majestic concept the “artist” aimed to channel. None. The listing literally said ‘décor’. I’m offended. So offended turned my offence into an artwork. ‘Simulation theory’ then kicks in and I happened to stumble across a massive canvas to repurpose for this concept. I decided to genuinely show off my talent in this piece although price it stupidly high on the online galleries and have no description, to give the impression it’s décor. I’m assuming the gallery will place it in a nice position since they’ll make a huge commission, I aim for the viewers to question the price. Leading them to see my other artworks and seeing a huge discrepancy. I wonder if the viewers will then look up my name and see this description on my own website to see I’m mocking the gentrification of décor artists and have a real description and appropriate price here (according to my level of fame). The game here is if someone ends up buying it direct, they win the game… If they go through a gallery without finding the true meaning of the artwork, I win the game. I risk being kicked off the online galleries with this artwork although that’s part of the statement I’m making. I tried painting this in 9 days although finished it in ten, because of the timeline I gave myself there’s definitely some tiny parts where I could have calculated the paint drying better so there are a few touch-ups which don’t reflect my aim to entirely show off my talent… The items in the artwork aren’t meant to have meaning however I definitely painted it with a story in mind, that’s just the way it worked out. This artwork is one of my hand-stretched ones, sold with hooks ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.

Lemurs

This is one of my twenty-one artworks in twenty-one days. A while back I visited the Art Gallery of NSW and there was an artwork, photography, where an aboriginal man duplicated himself at Parliament which showed how things would look if white people didn’t run the town here. I liked it on all aspects and that’s where the idea to replicate the lemur came from. I also recently cleaned it up and wanted to use the photo.

This is one of the later of my 80 artworks and since I have my ‘Giraffe Turn’ artwork and ‘Elephant Turn’ it seemed fitting to add the alpaca to the series since realising I probably had a slightly larger photo than what I previously thought. I cleaned up the photo and whipped out this artwork in an hour.

Giraffe Waterfall

This artwork derives from the idea that I’ve played around with in a few artworks, the earth being shaped in a sharp geometric 90º angle. This time I wanted to see how I’d go with adding a beach style water on it as opposed to cutting an ocean or a road. Turns out it’s not that difficult! From there I wanted to include my giraffe as if it’s entering our dimension from another or in a waterfall.

Bike Chain

This is a memorable artwork! Mainly because the file became half corrupt when I wrapped it up. I was so proud of what I’d made and I couldn’t simply open it to adjust some things before finishing it. The idea behind this is that I wanted to create a chain out of my motorbike, through the wheels. I think I did a decent job. It’s also in a colouring in book if you want to have a go at making the artwork yourself.

Shoe Crossing

I had a pair of shoes I really liked and I wanted to make an artwork out of them. So with these new photos alongside a crossing photo I took and some moons I put this together. As if you’re walking along a floating crossing over the water.

Similar to some other night time artworks, I struggled with the night time background for a while and I’m not sure I’ve fully mastered it yet. I remember pulling over to take a few photos for this artwork and I assumed no one was paying attention. A moment later a man asks me if I’m okay or selling my car? No… Had to pause and make some art… You know. So the artwork’s background is the actual shot, more black than dark blue that I now think would be more suitable for my artworks. The rest is just me playing around seeing how the artwork would play out with a flying car.

Sometimes when I create a digital artwork I create many versions or save a version before changing it and in some cases I can’t decided which one I want to sell. Usually I’ll just throw any suitable version up because after a few years of sales I see that my taste isn’t everyone’s taste and the art lovers often choose artworks I would have never guessed. When creating this artwork I wanted to use my black an white portrait photo but mix it with the challenge of turning it gold, digitally and also add a painting in it as well. I guess I went in loaded wth ideas for this one and I’m not sure I hit the mark! These are the results. Definitely funky.

Melting Moons

This artwork was surprisingly well received! It features in my colouring in book if you’re in the mood to create your own version. I decided I was in the mood to create a sea of moons melting at night. Night artworks are tricky though, compared to my day time ones they lack something. It’s not something I’ve mastered yet, in my opinion. However I’ve been told by more than a handful of people they love it, unprompted. So I guess that’s how it lands!

I ended up this artwork unsure about the outcome but that happens with half of them. I’d taken a photo of my door and decided this. This is what I’m making an artwork out of. So I did. Then I needed some background and landscape to work with it so I took some clouds I’d created and a background from what I vaguely remember possibly being Bobbin Head.

Elephant Tight Rope

I wanted a quirky artwork for this. In 2019 I’d taken a photo of an elephant at the zoo and used it in a few artworks and for some reason elephants at the circus were on my mind. So from there I decided to create an elephant high-wire in your average landscape. The legs took some manipulating and I do enjoy how it turned out.

I really enjoyed this artwork! I must have been rephotographing my paintings and had quite a few out. So I decided that I wanted to create a digital artworks out of them and popped them in. I then used my favourite style of road shot, a front on shot and wanted it floating above the ground alongside that new cactus photo I’d taken. This is the result and I ended up painting this artwork as a challenge to see how I’d create it using paint.

Slanty Ocean Mess

I got myself a new chair and decided I’m photographing it, building up a library of items I can use in my digital artworks. From there I decided it would be a funky idea to have the chairs stacking and on fire, so that’s how this artwork came to be.

One day I looked at my toilet and thought “I don’t have a toilet artwork”, at the time I was really into putting lasers in my artworks as I’d just figured it out. I wanted to make the toilet interesting as opposed to a white toilet artwork and I placed it in a photo I took at Balmoral.

Turtle

From my 2019 trip to the zoo I managed to create this artwork using the turtle photo before losing the batch of photos. This was a tricky one because the turtles really blend in with the ground and the texture of the ground was tricky to seperate. In later years I spend more time fully cleaning up the turtles to use in their full capacity.

Flat Earth

I think the concept of flat earth is really funny. I also really like the idea where people have manipulated the shape of the earth and I wanted my own, so I created one, titled it “Flat Earth” and added my funky colours that I’d learn’t how to do on my ‘Hippy Hippo’ artwork.

In 2019 I wanted to play with creating a gold look digitally which turns out to be very tricky! Later on I try and even bigger challenge of doing the same with paint. So I took a photo of myself then really wanted to make the artwork something very original, so this is where it ended up. I wanted to aim at showing a visual for thinking through artworks being made.

Hippy Hippo

This is another artwork I created from my zoo visit where I really struggled to capture a clean photo of the hippo! This was a tough one because if I can’t seperate the hippo then I have to use the greenery around it in the artwork. I also added the challenge of using Photoshop’s wet brush. This was really interesting to make, I first increased the saturation on the layers below so the wet brush would pick up the colours and smudge them then reverted the original colours leaving behind this funky 60’s hippy pattern. I thought this was an awesome technique and continued it on throughout other digital artworks.

During some of my adventures to find new photos to use in digital artworks I went to The Gap, Vaucluse and Seacliff Bridge. I also had a favourite pair of heels that I decided would fit in well with this artwork so I merged the three to create what you see.

Bike Jumping Bike

In 2018 I took a photograph of my bike at Bobbin Head and manipulated it to look as it does, ‘Bike Bobbin’. I wanted to recreate the artwork but change it to have two bikes crashing in the air, perhaps use the bikes from ‘Motorcloud’ and ‘Cloudcycle’. Instead I didn’t as I decided to complete 7 artworks in 7 hours, which soon became 8 artworks in 8 hours and this was the result. A tad rushed.

I made this digital artwork to mark my 27th birthday and I was hoping to make somehting a lot cooler although I guess it didn't work out that way. It's entirely not my style although I'm getting good feedback so I guess its a success! Ironically my least favourite paintings sell first, so I guess that's the case with this one as well. Its a hologram, I intended to make a giant me in the clouds moving it although I guess not.

This was partially a challenge artwork, I wanted to know how I’d go about executing an underwater scene in my living room. There was also a cactus I’d just bought and wanted it in an artwork. Social Distancing

This was a covid artwork, I didn’t mind the social distancing in person, it was nice to have the person behind you in line at the grocery store genuinely not allowed to be on your back and being forced to go for a walk instead of sitting at a cafe wasn’t the worst. But it came with its trade offs, I didn’t expect people to regress in their social skills. I wasn’t really sure how to make a digital artwork on this idea so I whipped out my laptop, took some photos and sliced the ocean like I enjoy doing.

I love how this artwork turned out! I took this photo before I changed my sleeping schedule to something that suits me and my art more. So when this was taken I was up as the sun rose and had the opportunity to take a photo of my living room in this lighting. From there I’d mastered clouds and wanted to make it a real fairytale, the way that I felt when I saw the photo I’d taken.

Giraffe Sky Pool

I also wanted to play with the idea of giraffe height so I created a pool in the sky and then visiting it. Every time I look up this artwork in my files I never find it. Past me titled this artwork “Couch Hole”. I hope that sheds some light on the transformation this artwork went through then eventually landed here. I remember somewhat wanting to pop my couch in the ocean, then from there that lead into making a geometric hole in the ocean, then I guess it didn’t look right and here we are. I think this one is much more coherent, considering my artworks are surreal in general.

Umbrella

I wanted an artwork with an umbrella floating around. I guess a Merry Poppins kind of idea. I struggle with my digital artworks at night though and this is one of those that I look back at and wonder if I hit the mark. However art is subjective! I ran a kickstarter to launch my colouring in books and gave people the option to choose which digital artwork they wanted printed and this was one woman’s choice. It’s really fascinating to me to see the artworks people choose! I guess it did hit the mark for some.

Melting Giraffe

When starting this artwork I wanted to use my giraffe photo again, however I wanted it to be different and decided it would be cool to cut it in half and have the giraffe split through the artwork. Once I put it together it didn’t sit right and my skill level at the time decided that melting the giraffe would help. I ended up with this artwork. I’m not sure I hit the mark but I know that art is subjective and there will be someone who really connects with it.

Desert Portal

This was an interesting artwork to create, I wanted to create something that had a new photo of my new cactus I’d bought and photographed. Once I cut out the cactus ready to use, I found it more realistic than my other photos, it had a different look, most likely because I hadn’t had two artworks prior to this to manipulate it a bit and work it in. From there I set up the background and wanted a portal to a different world and this is the result. The first print that sold of this artwork (that material is now discontinued) came with a story about how the artwork matched the new owners poem he’d written. To him it’s as if he made the story and I made the visual and together he now has his imagination come to life.

New Years

This is one of a few New Years artworks I’d created, similar to my Christmas artwork, I was part of a digital artists group on Instagram who always created something to match the festive theme of the time. I took part quite a few times but it didn’t end up sticking with me. At the time I’d created quite a few artworks where I cut the ground in a geometric manner so I wanted to incorporate that into a photo I took at The Gap, Vaucluse. I then needed to be diving into the new year so that’s me in there.

Christmas Tree

At the time of making this I’d been surrounded by digital artists on instagram that all kept up with each other and they would always make a special artwork for the current holiday or social trend. It didn’t end up being my thing as I always aimed at the artworks being more personal than that but I gave it a go. This is a Christmas themed artwork.

Flat Earther Vs Minecraft

This is a digital artwork I created from photos that appear in older artworks and new ones. I photographed the road for my ‘Alpaca Rd’ artwork and reuse it here, from there I wanted to create the cube, flat earth look and changed the lighting and perspective so the ground drops off in a geometric way. From there I wanted parts of the artwork to be raised, similar to my Elephant artwork and a painting named ‘Politics’. Once I reached that point I needed some subjects and I was fostering a pack of kittens at the time that I named after famous red heads, Rupert Grint, Pauline Hanson and Ed Sheeran. I took photos of them and here they are! The final result reminded me of Mine Craft so that’s the title there.
